Sore, tender nose for no apparent reason

2 days ago I woke up to a very sore, tender nose. It feels like I have been hit, but I haven't. I haven't run into anything either. Now it has a dull ache or throbbing. My sinuses seem to be fine, but it feels like my nose is getting worse, it's actually the skin that runs down the brdge of my nose that's in pain.  Please help!  thank you

I get soreness on the inner under edges of my nostrils from time to time, like a pimple that hasn't surfaced yet. It's usually after a night of sleep, that I'll feel it in the morning. Lasts a day or 2, sometimes 3 and then gone just like that. I only notice when I get a itch and I have to scratch my nose or something. Another thing, it alternates from side to side and I've never had on both nostrils at the same time, it's happened a dozen times or so now. Thanks for any help, it's seems people on here are dealing with something else.

My son woke up with a pain on the right side of his nose, he does get nose bleeds when he gets too agitated like running or if the heater is on so he has had nosebleeds in the prior weeks. However I'm worried because this pain is accompanied by big dark circles around his eyes. As if he hasn't slept in days.

Anyone else has had dark circles too?

Like everyone else, I woke up one morning with the bridge of my nose very sore as if I had been punched in the face.  I've never felt anything like this before.  It's very painful.  There was NO signs of redness or swelling   I started searching and found this website.  I was glad to know I wasn't the only one having this happen!  I am into day 3 and am still confused about what it could be.  At first I did not have any other symptoms and after reading thought it was probably cellulitis.  But, day 2 my ear started hurting and glands were bothering me as well and the pain in my nose felt worse after bending over.  That is when I started to think it could be some type of virus or sinus issue.  The pain seems a TAD better today so I am still waiting to see what happens.    I hate going to the doctor so I try to stick things out as long as I can.  Probably isn't a good idea since a few years ago I had a fungus in my lungs that almost took my life.  You would think I would run to the doc at first sign of being ill but in fact I do the opposite!

FEEL SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER NOW

I of course had the SAME problem and spent hours Sunday reading all this feeling greatly confused as to whether to seek medical help - I just couldn't help thinking that if I had no fever or ANY other symptoms at all that I really didn't need steroids or antibiotics - here is how mine has played out:

FRIDAY: started to get that "crap there is hidden zit on my nose a brewin"
SATURDAY: woke up still no sign of that nasty painful zit so I too wondered did Hubby elbow me in sleep.
SUNDAY: still in a lot of pain noticed the slight swelling and very light redness barely noticeable going from top center bridge of nose down to just under left eye - nothing anyone would notice unless I pointed out  spent all day reading and researching and making myself crazy and decided to wait one or two more days before I worry enough to go see Dr. I did however take two liquid Advil gels (i truly believe this name brand and the liquid form actually work better than any other form of ibuprofen) this really did help with the pain a bit for me
MONDAY: Could barely put make up on pain was still so bad took more Advil and got my buns to work - Sunglasses hurt to wear on that spot. did a little more researching at work from my computer since all day Sunday was from my phone.  I came to the conclusion that I was suffering from Ethmoid Sinusitis after reading this statement about symptoms "Ethmoid sinusitis tends to cause pain between the eyes and tenderness when touching the bridge of your nose. Sometimes, the area around your eyes will swell, especially upon waking." I read on that antibiotics and other medicines are not necessary unless it gets worse or a fever and or other symptoms accompany it.  Still I was in pain and pretty annoyed by the entire thing.  I looked up Sinus massage and read how to massage the Ethmoid Sinuses - use index finger start at base below eye an maki tiny circular motions up towards top of bridge of nose - YES THIS HURT a bit I had fresh Advil in me so it made it tolerable I did it on and off throughout the afternoon and evening......
TUESDAY: Today.......  Feel 95% better swelling and redness down - was able to put makeup on- barely tender to the touch - even if I accidentally go to scratch or rub forgetting about it (that killed me over last few days.

Anyway I know everyone's experience is a lil different but I hope my advice could help in a possible understanding and offer some relief.  I want to be clear I had no other symptoms AT and have not been sick recently or been around anyone who has been sick recently - I am sure this can occur after, or due to or in conjunction with many colds and allergies.

For resolving a nose infection, I prepared a weak solution of garlic and water, by pureeing garlic in a blender and filtering the pulp out to get strong garlic water.

This I diluted by a factor of 10 and put into a small spray bottle. The resulting solution I spray into the nose to fight the infection.

For ordinary stuffed up nose, I put some salt water in a spray bottle and spray this into the nasal passages, inhaling slightly to draw the salt solution into the nasal passages. Such a solution should be boiled first to sterilize it, before putting it into the spray bottle.

I try to be very careful about putting anything into my nose which might scratch it inside and cause an infection. Spraying the inside of the nose with mild hydrogen peroxide solution will guard against infection. The nasal passages are only 1/4" from the brain.

Wow so weird I found this!  Having the exact symptoms...woke up with soreness on one side of my nose.  Worsened to the point, like everyone else, it feels like someone punched me on the bridge of the nose.  Pain all the way to the tip.  Dr is baffled but starting keflex tomorrow. Am so hopeful after reading this that the medication will help!

Once again, the problem went away on its own. I think having Flonaise on hand this time helped a lot. The welling was mostly gone in about a day and over the next two days, the sore area got smaller and moved further down my nose. I had a sore throat and headache and cheek pressure along with the mysterious swollen nose, so I've concluded this wasn't cellulitis, just an odd symptom of inflamed sinuses.

I was googling sore, swollen bridge of nose and came across this thread… AGAIN. See I posted in here 6 years ago with the same problem and it's back! This time, however, I didn't wake up with my nose mysteriously sore and swollen, it actually happened very suddenly while I was just sitting on the couch. One minute my nose was fine and the next, it wasn't. So weird.

When I had this before, it cleared up on its own in about 5 or 6 days, but now that the internet has so much scary info about cellulitis/staph, I'm feeling less inclined to take such a wait-and-see approach. Since this started on a Saturday night, I'll give it until Monday to start showing improvement or I'll make a doctor's appointment and get some proper antibiotics. In the meantime, I'm using my Flonaise nasal spray and Sudafed and Advil, which are all helping a bit with the swelling and soreness.

It really does feel like I've been punched in the nose again!

I'll come back here and update and let you know how this plays out.

For quite some time, maybe three months, my nose has been very sensitive and the skin seems very thin and slightly darker towards the right side. It is kind of sore and I have tried to put some skin lotion on, but a piece of the skin is missing as if it peeled off, leaving it very sensitive and actually sore. Is there anybody out there who can help me with a suggestion of what will handle it permanently? Thanks for your help. - Saint_Eben

5 days ago i had same symptoms- felt like id been hit in the nose, bridge of nose very sore. over the weekend it started to swell and get red so i went to urgent care. it is cellulitis- they put me on bactrim and said if it got worse to go to my family dr. immediatley which i had to do the next day. he added another strong antibiodic and said if it wasnt better in 2 days i would be admitted in the hospital and put on iv antibiodics. this is dangerous stuff given its location- you can get it in your eyes and get menegitis.if you think you have it go to your doctor. cellulitis is a staph infection

I have been reading these posts and can't believe there are so many. I woke up December 23rd, 2013 with the severe pain on top and one side of my nose. It was also swollen. No redness. I got in the next day to see a doctor. I have MDS Myleodysplastic Syndromee (bone marrow and blood disease) and my blood cells are very misshapen (too large, too wide, etc.) He said that is why I have this infection.  Great news for Christmas huh? He gave me a prescript for ointment that I put in my nose twice a day and it has helped with the pain and swelling. I am to use if for 5 days. Hopefully you don't have MDS, and just an infection. I have a weakened immune system so he said that is why my body couldn't fight this. Wonder if it has anything to do with my hair falling out ???

I have been suffering for some 20 years - after  trimming nasal hair i start getting sores inside the nose & this can  lead to the outside of the nose - a bit like rudolph - very sore & red - anyhow i new this was because of trimming finally so i had to be very careful with electric trimmers - anyhow - 6 months ago i came I across a product from Nads to wax the nasal hair it came with applicators - so i had to  give it ago ....  can i say all my problems have gone no more red nose - no more pain .. the process is so easy & you only have to do it once every 2-4 weeks - i put a little conditioner in after & i have a very clean nose.. if your a bloke & you have a very sensitive nose then you gotta go to waxing..

Unexplained pain on the bridge of the nose, can be from Shingles. A branch of the trigeminal nerve, called the external nasal nerve, travels down the center of the nose. if you have had chicken pox in the past, the virus can be dormant on this nerve. When the virus becomes active again, you can experience tenderness to extreme pain, followed generally by small blister type eruptions that follow the nerve. Need a prescription for an anti viral medication.
