sore tongue may be caused by  fungal infections like cutaneus chronic adult onset candidiasis..it manifests as glossitis (painful tongue), a burning sensation, and dry red mucosa

also lymphogranuloma venerium (a type of chlamydia infection) will present initially with a lesion on the tongue then possible a deeply grooved and very red tongue that is painful and sensitive to acidic, spicy foods. As LGV progresses lymph nodes around your chin and neck should enlarge (submaxillary, periauricular, parotid, and cervical lymph nodes). a wk after and up to two months following symptoms should involve pus draining from swollen areas (fistulas), open sores, vomiting, fever and headache. later stages involve cardio vasc. with anemia, central nervous system disorders, gastrointestinal problems, respiratory problems, and vaginal inflamation.

also strep pharyngitis presents with a soar throat and possible tongue pain
