Sore throat 2 1/2 weeks!

Hi I'm a 32 year old female, 5'4, 144 lbs, caucasian. I'm in overall good health, but have genetic high BP, and am on Bystolic 10 mg once daily to control BP. About 3 weeks ago, I was feeling kind of achey & tired. I then woke up one morning with a severe sore throat. After 2 days of the severe sore throat, I went to my PCP. I had a low grade fever while there, & my HR was a little elevated. The nurse said it was probably due to the fever. My PCP swabbed my throat and said no strep throat. Then she swabbed my nose & said I tested positive for flu strain B she thought. She prescribed Tamiflu & said get lots of rest. I took all of my Tamiflu & rested & seemed to recover from flu. But now I still have a sore throat. The sore throat has gotten better, but is still hanging around. My throat is red in the back near my tonsils, & it looks like there is a white bump on one of them. I've tried warm salt water gargles, Motrin & rest, but still have a sore throat. Any idea what might be causing this? I have an appt. with my PCP in the morning. Thanks...

Hi Doctor, thanks for your reply. I did see my doctor after posting this, and it turns out I had strep throat! My doctor said it was probably too early when they swabbed me the first time. She wrote me some antibiotics and I'm fine now. Thanks again...

Hi,
How are you? What other symptoms are present? Persisting sore throat may be attributed to a variety of conditions and may warrant further evaluation of an ENT specialist. While acute pharyngitis or  sore throat that can last up to a month before fully resolved is usually associated with viral, bacterial, or even  fungal  infection, chronic pharyngitis is often due to a persistent infection of the tonsils or gastrointestinal issues like laryngopharyngial reflux or esophagitis. If it persists, it is best that you have this checked for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
