Throat closed

Hi, I am 39 and last night I shook my husband awake while making awful wheezing noises, I could not breathe, but it was not my lungs it was my throat. I got up and moved around was coughing uncontrollablly. My throat closed up, I was choking, I could not breathe...this has now occured three times in the last two years, I have been unable to figure out what is causing it. The next few days after this issue, my neck is extreamly sore, my lymph nodes seem to be swollen, I like to put ice on the front of my neck to settle things down, I am also exhasted. I did move to Texas two years ago from Iowa but I don't seem to have this at a particular time of the year or it doesn't seem to follow pollen counts. I would appreciate any thoughts so that I can research your ideas.  Thank you in advance for your thoughts

Hi;

   If you weren't the three episodes, I would try sleeping on your side. Sometimes the tongue will relax and slip back to partially close the airway; Sleep apnea.
   Anxiety might cause globus hystericus, a sensation of tightness in the front of the throat.
   I experienced very similar as a child. Thought I was going to die!! Didn't... : )
   One might ask about hypnogogic hallucination if other ideas fail.

Sounds like it could be anxiety? There is a sensation people get when they have anxiety / anxious feelings even when you least expect it... your throat muscles tighten and feels like you can't breath let alone swallow.

I had this happen to me when I was watching tv and working on the computer. If it happens again, I would try to relax and pass and not fight it.. that might be what's causing you to have a stiff / sore neck.
