My gosh!! I thought I was the only person in the world with this awful pain. I have it on the right side of the tip of my nose. I also have sores on the inside of the with very minimal bleeding. The swelling and redness is so bad that I can't even apply foundation to my nose in the morning. I visited an Ear,Nose & Throat Doctor and he says that he can't find a reason that this is happening. I'm very frustrated and in alot of pain. What should we do??
Hello to the three of us... THE SAME Thing here.. but it isn't always there... it comes and goes... I almost feel like it comes around the same time as my cycle... an eye watering pain comes when I touch it... and then the inside gets and open sore and is just as painful... ???? I'm doing more research... I'll keep you posted!!! OneSweetLove at mac dot Com
I had that bad cold a while back. Sores inside my nose. Now, the tip is very sore and a bit discolored - first the right side and now the left. It doesn't look very good either. Very painful to the touch. It's been going on for about two weeks now. AGR....!!! If you find anything, please post. I am looking around the net as well.
It may be a fungal infection from what I have been reading on the net. I have been having the same symptomps as well for over a month. I have that pimple under the skin feeling right now and just touching the tip of my nose hurts like crazy. I am a pharmacist, so I am thinking an over the counter anti-fungal cream might help. I may try that and if that does not work then go to a doctor and get something stronger.
With some further research I found that it may not be a fungal infection. More likely its a Staph infection which results in Nasal Vestibulitis. Primary treatmet is Bacitracin ointment which can be bought at any pharmacy over the counter. If it is not resolved after that, may have to go to the doctor to get some oral antibiotics. Hope this helps for anyone else who may come across this page.
I am having pain in my nose tip, little swollen too. I am having pain when I touch and I could not find any discolouration or any pimples inse my nose. As Babs said, I had bleeding from my left nostrils and I feel it painy. I consulted Emergency doctor and he gave me a Nasal drops and said that your nose is too dry. But on the other side my blood pressure was high. He told that that may also cause your nose bleeding. My blood pressure was 140/100. That was a month back.
I got my pain again this week and met my family doctor, he aslo told that my BPwas high and adviced some medicines. Let me see, if that helps and also I had two shots for SINUS. I will keep you posted on the updates. Keep giving valuable news . NATHAN
call me hollywood...but my nose is in so much pain, is so sore and painful, every time i touch it, anything presses up against it, i cant even kiss my girlfriend because when our noses touch it hurts that much. i dont know whats the problem, ive been looking online for solutions but all i see is these different names and different diagnostics and everyone sayn just go get some creams basically but idk ima have to try somethin because this is pain that i want gone. i see no pimples, i see some redness, no nose bleeds, just a very sore n tender right lower nose tip??????? keep posted
I had pain in the tip of my nose that would cause swelling. It would come and go over several days. After a couple of trips to my GP, he finally tested me for staph - which came back positive. I think (but I'm not sure)that some people can be carriers of staph colonies and therefore be more susceptable to this infection. I had been taking OTC allergy medicine which dried out the membrane in my nose, then cracked open, giving the staph a place to grow.
I applied an antibiotic ointment (one the doctor gave me, not an OTC) to the inside of my nose for a week or so and it went away.
You should all have your doctors test your noses for staph...the pain is too excruciating to live with!!
Holy Cow!!! I can't believe everyone is writing about the same exact pain I have. The right tip of my nostril is in excrutiating pain, I can't even put a t-shirt on without pain if it rubs against my nostril. This *****!!! isn't a staph infection what you get when you have had surgery in a hospital and been exposed to some bacteria??? I don't think it is that.. I have not been in a hospital for years! it is definitely that pimple feeling, but there is no pimple! WTF!
I have been struggling with similar painful pimplesque lesions on the tip of my nose, but also at times on my upper lip, sides of the nose, even chin. I've had a bloody nasal passage most winters. I went to the doctor and forgot to mention the blood I see when I blow my nose, but the red thing on the tip of my nose couldn't be missed. She speculated it might be herpes, because topical antibiotics have been ineffective and she didn't think these were bacterially infected. She put me on 5 days of an antiviral. Coincidentally or causally, these painful bumps have subsided in 5 days to where my skin actually looks like it is in a healing mode (rather than active with some erruption) for the first time in months.
I also had a sore ear, which I was ignoring until it became noticably tender a couple days ago after doing some pilates for the first time in 2 years. I showed it to my MD friend who was visiting for Thanksgiving. She was intrigued by the antiviral therapy, its effect, and the ear thing which actually was a painful lump of the same general type as on the nose, but in the crease between the back of my ear and my head. Herpes hangs out in the nerve roots. Mostly, people's immune system keeps the various types of herpes in suppression. But for whatever reason, the herpes can become strongly expressed, as is the case with shingles (herpes zoster). There is a nerve connection between the tip of the nose and the ear, so a herpes flare up in these areas can be a serious matter and should be examined.
In any case, antibacterial therapies will be ineffective against herpes. Sometimes throwing different types of medicines at a problem, medicines that otherwise do no harm, can help determine through what works, that a problem is one or another thing. Sometimes a culture can identify something positively, but tests that are comprehensive enough to yield answers can be more trouble than just trying out one or another treatment. Some people stay on a suppression doses of antimicrobials or antifungals for a while.
MY NOSE AS WELL IS SOOO PAINFUL, AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A PIMPLE BUT NOTHING EVER ERUPTED, ITS MORE ON THE INSIDE OF MY NOSE AND NOW ITS SWOLLEN. LIKE EVERYONE ELSE I HAVE HAD THIS PAIN ON AND OFF FOR A WHILE BUT NOW ITS EVEN MORE PAINFUL AND BOTHERSOME. STAPH?? GEE SHOULD I GO TO ER STAT?
I've had the same symptoms for years! It come and goes and is sometimes more painful than other times. I also went to my doc and he perscribed a nasal spray and ointment. Those didn't work . My left side tip is swollen, and as I mentioned i've had this pain for at least 5 or more years. I'm looking into rhinoplasty. I'm so fustrated with doc not being able to know what it is. At this point I just want a surgeon to go in and cut whatever it is out!
I'm wondering if anyone is experiencing an unexplained sores anywhere else. I also have sore nose, but also have sore on backside. I thought I had gotten bitten by an insect or something. Also, wondering if anyone is suffering from any other conditions. I have just been diagnosed with having ulcers.
I to have very sore and red nose, this is the third time this year. I have had antibiotics and cream in the past which has helped, now cant see a doctor untill next week just wondering if theres anything i can buy over the counter just to calm the pain and swelling?!! Also why does it keep happening and what is it?
i've had this about 6 times in the last couple of years with varying severity. common to all of them was severe pain. in my case, there is never a pimple or bleeding or anything - just swelling (sometimes) and pain (always). it is at the tip of my nose and at its worst, it creates a swollen tip that kind of makes me look like w.c. fields or something.
it seems to come and go by itself after a few days. i would really like to know the cause. ENT doc examined it once and suggested i try using anti-bacterial soap to "wash out" the tip of my nose occasionally. i am skeptical about the effectiveness of this. i suspect it is some kind of viral infection.
My goodness the tip of my nose is in so much pain and my dad said just to ice it but placing ice on it is unbearable. My nose bleeds when I blow it wtf. OMG!
What a mess we all are, but atleast we can come here to hopefully find out the reason behind our pain.Well I have had this problem for 1 year, I have a feeling it has do with my sinus's . I had a panoramic x-ray taken of my mouth and 1 side of my sinus's is falling not sure if or how that would affect the inside of my nose. My periodontist told me who did surgery on my gums. I have the same symptoms as all here except I do not have a pimple or sores nor is my nose swollen on the outside it feels swoolen on the inside. It is very, very soar inside my nose. One nostril more so then the other. Can I just say my little nose hurts sooooooooooooo bad. Staph sounds like a runner up for solving this dilema. I know I must go to the Doctor so I willl let you know what he say's. Feel Better All....
My experience with this, I believe this might be a case of Staph infection. I had staph last year and my nose was one of the places it hit. I wouldn't touch it and then touch other parts of your body. Wash your hands after apply medication (like an antibacterial).
I have a similar problem and went to the doctor to have him look at it. He told me that many people have difficulty in the winter with soreness inside the nose. He said it is due to dryness in the air at that time of year. I have noticed that when I take a shower the pain dissipates. I am going to try the nasal lubricating drops.
This may seem odd, but have any of you noticed a correlation between the occurrence of soreness in your nose and eating nuts, especially peanuts? I noticed after several years of this happening, that it always seemed to happen if I ate a lot of peanuts, or peanut-based products. Some years ago, I mentioned this effect to my grandfather in passing, and he said he experienced the exact same thing!
It could be a food allergy, or it could be due to a herpes-like virus that is aggravated in the same way that cold sores may develop after eating certain foods. In addition to the pain, I also experience a slight itching sensation. In my experience, the pain subsides in a couple days if I simply eliminate all nuts from my diet.
Anyone else?!
You all sound just like me. Same exact pain. The way it seems to work for me is that one nostril seems to swell, then the pain comes. Almost like the swelling then causes cracks? and then an infection? I use colloidal silver in a nasal spray and it generally helps after a day or two. I have had this happen several times now. For me, it is related to my Liver Fire Blazing (Chinese Medicine). The outsides of my eyes get red, my nose swells and I get real tired. I am on a very alkaline diet to help with that, but interestingly enough, the other night I ate a bag of peanuts and the next day my nose was horrible. My eyes were red... I was sneezing alot. I have never had a problem with peanuts that I knew of, but now that someone mentions it, I will get tested for peanuts.
Thanks
Hi, all you other people with mysterious nose problems.I have similar symptoms to many of you.It started 8 years ago. I was menopausal , and the inside of my nose changed and became very dry. Then I had a sore on the tip of nose, like a spot that never erupted on the outside ; but broke out into a sore just inside the nasal cavity. It has never healed. It gets better then it gets worse. Now I have uncomfortable crusts inside both nostrils, which bleed if I blow my nose. Long - distance flying makes it worse, as does high blood pressure. Recently there is some soreness and bumpiness on the bridge.Sometimes I get a whiff of something that doesn't smell very nice.Yuk
My G.P. gave me "Naseptin", but it wasn't effective . I went to a specialist a few years ago, he didn't have any suggestions.I thought it was M.R.S.A because I was visiting my mother who had the superbug, but I tested negative .
Olive or almond oil applied with q tip before bed helps prevent my nose from getting too crunchy. I'm currently trying Manuka honey. It smells nice, can't do any harm and It might just work!
Metaphor? The body speaking it's mind? Any ideas? let me know if you have any thoughts. Thanks!
Helpful ideas, the acupuncture take, and use of colloidial silver. I don't eat peanuts, but have a few things I'm pretty intolerant of.
I'm going to keep an eye on my diet and book in with my acupuncturist. Thanks Duane!
(p.s. I've just discovered this forum. What a relief to be sharing something that seems a dratted nuisance and a bit of a mystery. I hope your nose gets better real soon.)
My wife tested me for peanuts and I was pretty weak. So, it is possible that was part of the problem. If you have things that you are "allergic" to or intolerant of, I recommend NAET (acupuncture). I have been cleared of many allergies for $45 a pop, when it costs thousands of dollars to go with Western medicine. 2 days of colloidal silver spray and my nose is all better :)
