I agree I had this surgery 3 times and did not fix my chocking dislocation issues it helped a little but now I'm getting this on the right side not left it's like my larynx has rotated .
Could you please provide me with Dr. Berkes' information at UCLA. I tried looking him up withou success, but I really need to consult with him and his team. Please advise if you can with the appropriate contact information. Thank you.-HCP123
Hi Dr. Berke has a lot of experience in this area I know 2 patients (and myself) who have all had this surgery done outpatient without any serious complications post op it was beneficial for all 4 of us but not a complete cure as you will see from this board there may be more than one issue at hand. The only thing that is bothersome is that is hard swallow liquid the day after the surgery, so you may get dehyradated and have to go back in for an IV. This is why I would get a hotel at the Tiverton House right next to the hospital so if you are not feeling comfortable you can check back in. I was totally freaked out about the surgery but if you are in horrible pain Dr. Berke has as good a chance of anyone at fixing in it, and the operation is really not that scary. Surgery is always a last resort though but I can attest that Dr. Berkes team is very professional and mutliple people on this forum have undergone this surgery successfully without complications. I had severe episodes where I thought I was going to suffocate and they went away after the hyoid excision, I researched that alteration in the morphology of the hyoid bone can cause breathing problems. It was very debilitating and depressing and I no longer have extreme episodes of shortness of breath like the room is deprived of oxygen. If you are in horrible pain do yourself a favor and visit doctor Berkes team at UCLA they will make the best decision and have extensive experience ( probably more than any hospital in the US) in this region of the neck.
