Vestibular Rehab

I am being treated for vertigo (rocking back and fourth feeling sensation) and have just started Vestibular Rehab.  How long will this take before I know it is doing the trick?  I have had vertigo for 2 years now, on and off the first year and the second year has been everyday. Any ideas? I have had 2 brain MRI's they are normal, I have been seeing and ENT for 2 years and the tests done there have also been close to normal. I then went to a Neurologist and he has prescribed the vestibular rehab. Any ideas on this? I am starting my 2nd week and still feel the same.

If you think you are slowly getting back to square one, we need to take a look at your story again. Hope the blood work up included serum thyroid profile, blood urea and serum creatinine as well as lipid profile (We do all these when the diagnosis is not obvious).

Rolling back and forth feeling? How was the first ''attack"? What do you think caused it? Is it always present? Or comes in episodes? If so, how long does each episode last? What brings it on and what seems to ameliorate it? Is the 'roll' associated with any other feature? Like pain or stiffness in neck, nausea or vomiting, or double vision or blackouts or ringing or fullness in the ear/ears?

Do you get the 'rolling...' sensation when you tilt you head up (look up at the ceiling)?

I think the Xray findings are not specific; as it may be seen in anyone after 30 with no vertigo as well. Let us see what the MRI cervical spine shows up.

Hi,
1. My ENT finally diagnosed me with : possible cervicogenic vertigo or possible vestibular migraine.
2.  My neurologist seems to agree with the ENT so that's why I have been going to vestibular rehab which now seems to be helping the vertigo. I am still having a problem with my neck, which I thought was just strained due to my vertigo. But I had an xray done and it showed Mild to moderate cervical spondylosis and disc degeneration mostly at c5-6 and to a lesser extend at c6-7. This could now be the reason I am feeling the vertigo is getting better but I still have the sensation of rocking from my neck. I am having a cervical MRI done this coming week. Also, my PCP did a full blood workup and that has all come back normal.

Hi,

1. What was the conclusion of your ENT specialist? Most of the tests will be normal in many cases of vertigo. (And what all tests were done?)
2. What is the diagnosis/conclusion given by your neurologist?

Hope you are not a diabetic or hypertensive. Any particular blood tests done?

Best,

Thomas Antony

Thank you Nancy for the reply. Tomorrow will be the completion of 2 weeks of Vestibular rehab but I don't see much change yet. I will keep it going and yes the physical therapist I am seeing is specialized.

I think it can take several weeks. Stay with it, don't give up! Vestibular rehab can often work really well. Hopefully you are seeing a PT who SPECIALIZES in vestibular rehab and has had special courses in it such as the Herdman course or others. Good luck!
