Awesome! I am not the only one. I am just over a month post op and was never put on antibiotics after my surgery. I've had yellow phelgm come up since my surgery but only recently have started to feel sinus infection bad. I also had so many infections before my surgery, so it isn't too much of a surprise that it's lingering. It makes sense, your tonsils might have caused/ worsened an already bad situation but getting rid of the tonsils doesn't get rid of the infection.
I have the exact same thing right now.. I had my tonsillectomy 31 days ago and I have everything you described.. I have small fevers too.. What did you do? how did it go for you?
Your not preaching, I finished the doseage of what the doctor gave me.. everything healed within 2 weeks.. however its four weeks now and this infection started up.. However, The doctor perscibed me 2 different types of antibiotics.. first he did penecillian 250, then 500mgs, then Amox/clavulate liquid form, then he did this weird named one.. So i had left overs of the penecillian 250/500mg. I see my ENT tomorrow for an allergy test so im going to ask him to look at the back of my throat, however i just started to take the extra antibiotics i have laying around just incase it is an infection..
Stupidly i stuck my finger down my throat to feel whats going on.. and it feels like my palantine tonsils (which were removed) but its on the side of my throat, puffy and enflamed.. im taking vicodin now and my body just feels the need to sleep..
I have horrible OCD so i started this because i need to convince my subconsious everything is okay till i go see the doctor and not do something stupid heh :3
thanks for your quick reply though!
Back to the doctor you go!
Following is from a pamphlet I picked up discussing tonsillectomies:
Medicine:- Antibiotics are often prescribed for 5-7 days to improve healing, along with analgesics.
Bad breath:-Oral-hygiene is very important so gargle every time you eat something. Take plenty of fluid.
** You may have mild soreness of throat for 7-10days, mild earache for one week or blood mixed mucus for one week.
** You may have mild fever for a few days and nausea or vomiting.
Work and physical activity:- For desk job you may start working in 7 to 10 days.
Heavy physical work is to be avoided for 14 days after surgery.
Call your surgeon if you experience any of the following:
bleeding from the surgical site
inability to eat or drink
difficulty breathing
fever over 101 degrees
inability to urinate
vomiting.
No where does it say you may or may not get an infection...so I looked it up...getting an infection following ANY surgery is bad news...
By what you wrote it sounds like you never finished your prescribed dosage, and are only finishing it now? Not good if that's the case...you should always finish it right away.
Sorry, not here to preach...just get your "throat" to the doctor ASAP!
