mastoiditis ???

Ok, so My ear has been hurting for a few weeks. [I'm 14yr old female btw] and so I went to the doctor yesterday who said I had fluid in my ear. So I'm currently on a steriod for it. I'm scheduled for a CT scan next monday but, since the 8th, it's right behind my ear, and like the place that it is it, is like all swollen and bigger than the other side. A doctor in another forum told me that it could be mastoiditis. If so what should I do about it. And also, do you think it could be a tomur, because I have sinus problems a lot and they always say thats the cause of my headaches. Also my neck is REALLY sore, it feels like I pulled it and it makes my throat hurts a lot. Please help.

I'm currently suffering with Mastoiditis, and your symptoms sound very similar to my own.  I've had surgery 2x for it in the last 3 mos, and just found out today that I may have to have another.  If there is extensive disease, DO NOT let the dr talk you into doing a long course of oral antibiotics.  This rarely works, because they cannot penetrate deep enough into the bone to be effective.  I did it for almost a yr and to no avail. Meanwhile, the mastoiditis got worse and worse, and has caused me constant pain for the last year now.  Go for the surgery as soon as you can if you do have it, it's the most effective way to treat it.

Hope this helps, and well as wishing you the best in dealing with whatever ails you.

Hi, mastoiditis is infection of mastoid bone, related with chronic untreated ear infection. Now a days, this kind of infection is rarely seen as antibiotics prescribed to treat middle ear infections usually halt its progress to mastoiditis.

Please get yourself investigated, CT, which will rule out this possibility. This condition can be treated with antibiotics.
