nasopharynx & stubborn mucous?

I'm going out of my mind. I had a sinus/cold/flu-thing. One week of the usual sniffing, coughing, aching and then (I thought) it was over. Post-nasal drip imperceptible. Yet I feel like I have mucous sitting above my soft-palate. I'm guessing the nasopharynx. I can make the kind of pressure that usually clears mucous so it can be swallowed (ok so not appealing but effective). The insane part is I feel like something is lifting off but immediately I'm right back where I started. Can't swallow it. Can't cough it out. The constant unnatural sensation has me out of my mind. Nurse Practitioner swabbed- not Strep. I rinse my sinuses with a Neti Pot. I gargle with saline. I do a hard swallow instead of coughing to reduce irritation. NP put me on antibiotic but I'm desperate about this "phantom" mucous, this swollen feeling. As I write this it's been a full week of "torture". My only relief is when I am asleep.

I swear I tried so hard to find my problem off google, it was hard but I came across your question and its exactly what I’m dealing with and I just figured out how To help it. First of all I think it’s a cold starting. And I say that because everyone in my house is sick but me, so now it’s surely my turn. Well I took a qtip and i wet it so the cotton wouldn’t get in my throat but I stuck t on the back of my roof of mouth where the nose meets the mouth and broke up the stubborn mucus ball and it helped !!!! I spit that **** out ... it has came back but it relived me for temporary! Good luck ppl! (Years later) lol

I am grateful to see I’m not the only one suffering with this. It’s each morning for me for the first hour or so. I can always clear it by “hawking”, but my fiancé is disgusted by that so I almost feel like I need to leave the house in the morning just to breathe again. Please share any success stories up here.

I get this in Arid climates.  I got rid of it on accident by drinkly whiskey neat, I hadn't frozen any cubes.  I took a small, warm sip of Jameson and laid flat on my back to read.  I could feel a satisfying pop and crackle on the palette in the back of my mouth, then 5 seconds later I sneezed a large glob of mucus into my hand.  I was simultaneously disgusted and relieved.  The next time it happened I tried it with chilled whiskey, it didn't do anything until I irrigated it with warm saline and had some whiskey, neat.

I've had multipal attempts toward nasal reconstruction to regain some nasal airways. Also followed with multiple sinus surgeries from ongoing sinusitis. The more surgeries, the more nasal drip, ear infections, and bronchitis. The conditions became chronic, and my life was miserable. I've left a trail chasing my tail from clinic to clinic around the country side. I don't think there is a medication through any clinic that has not been tried, but they all seem to have failed as any long term help...After a lot of research, and learning  otherwise I stumbled onto a remedy that now works for me quite well. I will share it with you, or anyone having nasal drip problems. As follows: Every morning do a saline nasal rinse. Then mix a teaspoon, or two, of Bragg's apple cider vinegar with an equal part water and do a gargle.  Swallow it if you can. Take 100% pure cranberry juice. Mix with equal part water. Rinse mouth and also gargle, and swallow it. If you have sinus infection drink one glass of the same cranberry juice with equal part water. It is a natural antibiotic, repeat for at least 3 days, and even the most stubborn antibiotic resistant infection will disappear. Inflammation of the nasal tissue, or sinus will go away. If you are like me though I have a lot of surgical scare tissue from all the prior surgeries. The immune system like to keep attacking it because it is not like original tissue, and becomes inflamed easily. What I mention to do only really takes about 5-10 min of time, but is so rewarding as not to suffer otherwise. !00% cranberry juice costs about $8.00 or so a quart, but does not have the added sugars that otherwise feeds yeast. It is about the only thing that kills bio-film that protects the bacteria to survive against the most potent antibiotic. I learned some of this through Australian medicine.

This is exactly what I am currently experiencing. Did it ever go away??
I experienced immediate sinus relief when I drank a 10 ounce glass of cranberry juice with dinner, without any medical  intentions. I'm planning on adding it to my regular diet, along with miso broth. When I lived in Japan, my sinus congestion cleared up along with digestive troubles. I could only attribute it to daily miso soup, since I was still eating bread and dairy products along with healthier foods like fish and vegetables.

Hi, treat sinusitis first by mucolytics, antibiotics, along with sinus drainage if necessary. Get CT PNS done to rule out sinusitis. For symtomatic relief of post nasal drip, try ambroxol, steam inhalation and nasal irrigation.

Antibiotics like amoxacillin, levofloxacin etc will be helpful. Spicy meals or snacks will help in liquifying mucus by enhancing nasal and bronchial secretions. Do consult ENT surgeon in case of no relief.
