sore throat

i have had this sore throat for several months. i can recall first having it when i started smoking and drinking heavily about 7 months ago. since then it's been on and off and sometimes accompanied with mouth sores, fever, neck and ear pains and loss of appetite. my doctor put me on some antibiotics, amozicilin and peniciline at different times and gave me medication for the fever. while the mouths sores and neck pains resolved, the sore throat, ear pains and the fever remains. i feel a burning sensation in the area where the sore is in my throat with radiating pains to the ear on the same side of the throat. i have since stopped smoking and cut down on my alchohol consumption. i feel very sick that i will need your advice to help deal with the problem.

Well at least you realise you are doing it your self, glad to hear you've cut out smoking, could be you are allergic to the Alcohol you drink, some people are allergic to the Sulphates in it , look at the label on even Wine ,it will warn you, most alcohol warns about sulphates.Other thing are you near anyone constantly who could be passing an infection on. Hope you feel better soon.

I m having ear pain and sore throat and also have sore mouth, my tounge, upper area of mouth and also hav pain behind the ears...been like this for a week now. I m worried as I had a pap smear wich came back with hpv and ascus and I also hav large fibroids wich I m getting treatment for. My great worry now is that is this sore throat related to hpv as hpv can also cause head and neck cancer. I will be glad if someone can help me on it.

Hi Pathp. I have the same symptoms, sore throat on the left, painful to swallow, numb tongue and pain behind my ears, also inside the ears. I have been smoking heavily for the past 5 years, but have now quit. There's a burning sensation where my sore throat is. I have had this for several weeks and given antibiotics, but the pain is still there. I will go and get checked by the doctor again, but just wanted to know if you managed to get results on checking for cancer?
