sudden hearing loss, tinnitus, hypercussis

Hi, is there anyone on here that has had sudden hearing loss and left with tinnitus and hypercussis which is ( a sensitivity to sound) and couldn't use hearing aides because you could'nt speak with them on because they were too loud and couldn't be tuned to your ears and had to get a cochlear implant and still can't get it mapped to where you get clarity and can pretty much only have one on one conversations with people and some times the tinnitus causes you not be able to understand very well even then. Can't stand to be in loud places, can't use a reg.telephone and vco's and captel's are confusing to keep up with conversations especially business one's with the push button 1 and so on. If so please get back to me on this post, I feel so alone and don't fit in anywhere.

I had ear problems from a baby and a lot of operations from the age of 8 to14,i remember when i was a little kid i used to say to my mum can you hear the noise, and put my ear to hers. The last op left 75% deaf in one ear and 25% deaf in the other. The tinnitus is so much louder now and never lets up,just dulls down sometimes. My first hearing aid was fantastic, but the second one is uncomfortable and i only wear it when i really need to.The problem is that it enhances all sound not just speech.I could never the teachers at school properly so i thought i was stupid and quit when i was 15.Did not get a hearing aid till i was 41,i went to adult school did 4 different courses and passed them all with flying colours.Pity i hadnt had this aid when i was a kid and it was never offered.I still get dizzy, and i have verigo now for 3 months and i cant drive a car. After the last op i have always had to say excuse me i didnt quite that or whaterever, anyway ive always got areyouDEAF or just Stupid. Some words sound like for example Float i might hear boat,So i muck up a lot of conversations. My family and close friends have all been trained to speak louder and to walk or stand on my good side.I also have fibromyalgia, but im happy most of the time becuse i could be worse of like i was last year nearly kicked the bucket but im still her pluggin along.

Thanks so much for your replys, I've yet to find out what has happened to my ears they both just left without warning except I did have some dizziness beforehand but nothing to suggest I was about to lose my hearing and have the severeness I have. Everything happened so suddendly no antibiotics or trauma of any kind that I can recall, it will make 13yrs. in aug. that I lost hearing in my only good ear which was the left one overnight, leaving me to live a nightmare daily. My heart goes out to the children and the parents of them who are going through deafness and tinnitus, and also hypercussis or just one of the 3 problems of the ears. I am so glad it was me and not my child that this happened to because I can't imagine how I could handle my child suffering this bad. Remember me in your prayers and I'll do the same for you also because doctor's can't seem to do anything for me. Also to them I'm just a face in the crowd.

My heart goes out to both of you. We feel very alone as well-but I have found a board-The Hyperacusis Network- where people have collapsed tolerance to sound, Grace -there are many, and it is torture. My 13 year old daughter is Autistic, and due to ear and sinus infections every year, and several courses of antibiotics, she became so sound sensitive she cannot attend a classroom of 7. Even the quiet room that was set up for her alone with a para, didn't work. I found that antibiotics, a loud noise like a gunshot, or a thrust to the head can cause this. For our daughter it definately was the antibiotic use. Prayers and best wishes to you both. Healing can come to us all! Joan-Katie's Mom

I have a 20 yr old daughter that had her 3rd stroke on June 29th.
It left her with hearing loss and speech problems. Th Dr. said she hears us but does not understand what we are saying. She hears the phone ring and noises. I don't know what to do they say her hearing may never return but, her speech is getting understandable we go back to the Dr. on the 25th. Does the Dr's think your hearing will return? She doesn't like loud place or sometimes just talking bothers her. She get very frustrated at times, I hope you get better. I don't have any ideas I am searching myself. Take care of yourself and God bless you.
