what can i do for extremely dry nose and dry crusty mucus pieces in the nose?

I have a very dry nose and dry crusty cooties in my nose especially on the inner top of the nostril. What can I do to get rid of it? I pick my nose a lot and sometimes it bleeds. I do not want to use vaseline. I tried Rhinaris gel but I seem to inhale it. Saline spray makes it dry. Wiping the inside of the nose with a water soaked swab helps temporarily. I tried using .5 % hydrocortisone gel but it only worked a bit. I have electric heat and it is dry in my home. I drink 4-5 cups of fluid a day. What can I do? I have had the problem for months now.

I would go see your DR.
Maybe get some kind of humidifier.
We have a wood-stove going and it has a pot of water on it for this reason too. Other then that I would of said Vaseline but you do not like that.
Make a DR appt.
