sense of smell very strange!

I had the "real" flu in March. Actually the whole month of March. Its now June...and I have noticed that my sense of smell is not right!! Something that I think smells awful, other people say smells great.
alot of the time, the smell that I smell is like bleach---even when no bleach has been used.
I can taste--but thats not 100% either. A friend cooked microwave popcorn--I smelled bleach. I have a raspberry chapstick--I thought it had gone bad--was a rancid smell..my friend smelled it..said it smelled great.
What is going on?

You should see your otolaryngologist- There are many possibilities ranging from a lingering sinus infection to viral mediated anosmia. An office evaluation will usually help to determine the underlying cause.

Dear Dr.Genden,

I saw you mentioned Viral Anosmia in your answer above.

Is there any known treatment for this ?

I suffer of a strange parosmia/phantosmia following my 3-rd sinus surgery for polyps removal, and I cannot get rid of it and no ENT specialist is able to find its reason.
Brain CT scan did not reveal anything significant.

Thanks a lot and best regards,
Iudith

I did take the tamiflu...which seemed to have no effect whatsoever on my flu....
As a totally unrelated issue, I did have a complete brain MRI in Sept of last year--they were diagnosing migraines, and wanted to rule out anything else. That was completely clear--otherwise I might be thinking neurological too....
its just so strange...and I hate it!
