crunchy, crackling sound in outer ear catrilage

I have a crunchy, crackling sound when I touch behind the outer ear  or really just touch or gently push on any part of the cartilage on the outer ear. Also moving my head or turning my neck causes it. It doesn't come from the inside, just the outer ear cartilage. What could cause this? It is only the left ear and there are no other symptoms, no swelling or pain. It started this morning out of the blue.
