10 year old says his ear feels like there's a heartbeat in his ear

My son is complaining of a feeling of a heartbeat in his ear. About a month ago he was complaining he was hearing ringing in his right ear i took him to the doctors who said his ear looked a bit red and it could be a sign of an ear infection and usually Will go away on its own since he was not in pain and did not have a fever. Now he said he can feel it pumping inside and said it is kind of hurting. Could he have developed another ear infection in just a month or is this the same infection that has now gotten worse? Please any idea what this can be?

Took my son to another doctor who prescribed antibiotics for him to take for 5 days so I will see how that works for him.

Thank you. I am going to take him to another doctor cause i also found it kind of odd that they just sent us away without any advice on how to treat.

I'm a little surprised the doc said, in effect, let it get better on its own... did the doc mention anything like using an earwax cleaning preparation.  I use hydrogen peroxide straight from the bottle, but one could dilute it 50/50 with water to make it even milder.  Just a warning, the bubbles tickle and it takes some concentration when I use it to lay still on one side and just let the up--side ear bubble...then drain into a paper towel or sink after 5 minutes.

It would be good to have a medical exam again.  If the doctor has a medical assistant, that person may be a good one to check.  I have been checked by the registered Nurse Practitioner (a position licensed to prescribe some medications) who partners with my primary care.  One benefit is I think she (in this case) was willing to spend more time talking with me about my complaint, which was in fact a plugged ear and nasal congestion.
