Balance problems

I am 79 years old and in good health.  However, for about a year I have had problems in balance in spite of daily walks and a long period of physical therapy.  Do I have Parkinson's disease, in spite of none of the 'classic' signs, and would one of the dopamine derivatives do me any good?  Am I developing a "neural disease?" My parents lived over 100 years and neither died of dimentia or Alzheimer's.  Bobby2

I received one response to my question about a "balance problem." I have seen three neurologists (all Board certified) and an audiologist.I have been diagnosed with early stage Parkinson's in spite of not showing symptoms of the disease.  Today I walked with more unsteadiness but I still and haven't shown signs of 'vertigo or Menier's disease'.)  I'm going to see a 'special Neurologist' on Monday morning who might prescribe medication for Parkinson's.  We'll see if it works.  Bobby 2

Hi Bobby-

Your complaint of balance problems is rather vague and it would be impossible to suggest even a narrow list of possible diagnoses.  The list of things wrong in the body that can cause one to feel imbalanced or dizzy is frustratingly long and varied.  However, with the right clinical tests and a doctor with an interest in these things, a diagnosis can be reached and you could likely be helped.  I would suggest that you see a Neurologist or an ENT specialist.

I have just posted a question -- which I was able to re-read above.  But since I'm not good with a computer, and this is my first experience in this forum, I don't know how to retrieve answers.  Additionally, I've had my ears checked (no problems) and I see well (can drive at night), don't wear glasses, but I'm very worried about my balance: I've given up tennis and am reluctant to ride my bycycle.  Bobby2
