A few days ago, I realized the inside of my mouth was hurting. At first it felt like an odd pressure, almost like I had cut myself inside my mouth. Feeling around with my tongue, I did find two area that seemed to be very small chunks missing in the gum, but pushing on them or around them did not cause any pain. A few hours after this occurred, it started hurting when I swallowed. The odd thing about it though is that my whole throat didn't hurt (technically it wasn't even my throat). The far back roof of my mouth on my right side would hurt every time I swallowed or yawned, but not to chew, move my mouth around, or talk.
The next day, it seemed better during the day. I definitely was not in as much pain. However, at night, it came back, and it was worse this time. An area above the back of molar hurt to put pressure on, and every time I swallowed. This eventually started hurting so bad the pain traveled to my ear, and then up to my temple and gave me a slight headache. Later that night it randomly appeared in the bottom right of my throat. There's a completely distinguishable "pain-free" zone between the two sore spots now. The spots hurt BAD though. Bad enough to wake me up constantly. The one on the lower right side definitely hurts worse, and it's definitely more in my throat than in my mouth like the first one.
I saw a doctor today, and he said almost nothing helpful. They did a strep test which came back negative, and he said I should probably wait it out. He looked in my throat and didn't comment, so I'm assuming he didn't see anything remarkable. When I look myself, I can't really see anything but a slight reddening of where it hurts. The only other thing I can think to add is that starting last night, there's a weird texture to the areas that hurt...almost more "slimy" than the rest of my mouth. It feels very odd, and the swallowing pain is bordering on unbearable.
I looked at a few other forums, and my only luck was finding a group of people describing close to this exact problem, but not ending up with any answers. Does anyone here have any idea what this could possibly be?
Considering your symptoms of point tenderness and pain on opening the mouth, your symptoms could be due to temporomandibular (TMJ) joint arthritis. This is the jaw joint and inflammation of this joint can cause pain on opening the mouth and tenderness on palpation behind the ear. As you have had a recent throat infection, it could also be a lymph node enlargement. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
