Can just 1 tonsil grow back?

The last few weeks I have found my eating has slowed right down in terms of pace as I have been a lot more conscious about swallowing and haven't been able to swallow as freely as normal. Yesterday I decided to look in my mouth and I notice that I have a lump at the back of my throat. I had my tonsils taken out when I was younger, but they always said that some has been left behind in the scar tissue. Is it possible for just 1 tonsil to grow back and cause problems swallowing or could it be something else!?

I wanted to add a photo so you could see, but the lump is at the back of the throat on just 1 side behind the uvula.

Thanks
Gemma

Hi, if the tonsils have been removed, its unlikely that the swelling is due to tonsils. It could be scar tissue. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), can cause problems with swallowing, which is caused due to reflux of acid from the stomach into the esophagus. It could also be due to disorders of the esophagus. You will need to consult your primary care physician who will examine your throat and may ask for some tests like barium swallow or endoscopy to determine the cause for difficulty in swallowing. Regards.
