How can I tempt to cure my continuous cough?

Back story: I just moved two hours away from my hometown and with doing so I had also changed jobs so during this transition period my prior medical insurance had expired and I'm still in a 90 day trial period before my new benefits kick in.

During this transition I fell really ill with what seemed to be obvious flu symptoms I.e., fatigue, fever, chills, achey muscles, nausea, diarrhea and a sore throat that was so raw and sore I could barely swallow a thing without wincing and audibly reacting. I went straight to the ER because I knew I could be seen without the hassle of getting isurance gathered as be sent on my way. After evaluation they decided on a viral infection and sent me home with ibuprofen, Motrin and nausea medication.

The next day I woke up even worse. In a lot of pain, too weak to walk or stand, and I had been coughing a nasty fluid filled cough and had begun to spit up in a jar. This ensued for two days. All other symptoms have let up and I am left with a nasty cough. I cough every 3-5 minutes and each time it's deep and I cough up a green phlegm. I cough so hard uncontrollable that it causes me to vomit. My nose will get stuffed up and I'll get post nasal drip but it's hard to get it to blow out of my nostril or hack it out of my throat. Since all of this has happened up until currently my breathes are short and my heart rate is fast. If I attempt to breathe deeply I cough automatically uncontrollably for at most 30 seconds.

Since I have no where to go without insurance and I don't have to funds to pay out of pocket and I didn't feel the ER really tended to my needs, I'm seeking advice on what this cough is that I'm experiencing and how I can get it under control and find a cure.
