swollen lymph node

I tested positive for epstein barr because of fatigue symptoms last week just waiting until I see my allergy/inmunno doctor who tested me for this to come back from vacation. The office staff called me and told me it was positive and needed appointment for when he comes back. He is away on vacation, has no covering doc will be back in another week. So today I woke up this morning to go to work and I have swollen lymph node on my left side really bad. My entire neck area is very swollen with a hard lump(hard as a rock) near the lymp node. This is not the first time this happen, usually it happens at least 2 to 3 times a year and I get 2 shots of antibotics and predisone for couple days. I called my pcp to see if she can see me and got appointment for tomorrow and bring in the results of the blood test. The last time I saw ENT he said that he can remove the lymph node on my left side because it gets infected very bad and I swell to a point that I have a hard time moving my neck. The only draw back is he claims that there will be a scar there and women should have scars on there necks. I don't care about scars I just want this to stop from appearing over and over. She will refer me to another ENT tomorrow for another opinion. Does anyone know about having lymph node being removed from the neck area? Why does it happen too frequently even when I didn't have epstein barr? Has it happen to anyone else with swollen lymph nodes to this extreme?

My son tested oitive for Estein Bar Virus some time back, noted the last few weeks that he has a swollen gland, doctor has asked him to do a Ultra sound
right retroauricular region , he said that it is better to take it out if it tuns out to be a cyst  later there can be infections. Anyway waiting to do ultra sound first before making any decision.
Jalene why did you take the lymh nodes out and how old were you then was it causing any roblems did ya have a ultra sound done before they decided to take it out and are you having any roblems now. My sons ultra sound is on Tuesday . He is also comlaning of tightness in neck area, doctor said his throat looks red and slighly swollen and ut him on antibiotics but he says it hasnt done much, also he says his throat is dry and drinks water secially when he wakes u in the morning.
Not sure if he breathes through his mouth in the night and thats why he feels like that
Anyway good luck and will kee you osted

I had several lymph nodes removed from my neck many years ago; I personally would not advise it unless absolutely necessary as they serve a purpose.
