Hello and hope you are doing well.

Understand your predicament.

Nose bleeding can occur due to hypertension as suggested. Nose bleeds can also occur due to trauma, exposure to warm dry air more common in winter months, rhinitis, infections, vigorous blowing, foreign bodies and deviated nasal septum. Sometimes it could be due to bleeding disorders or due to medication like Coumadin.

During this episode the patient must be made to sit upright, this reduces blood pressure in the veins of the nose. Further she should be made to bend forward, this will avoid swallowing blood, which can irritate the stomach. Using the thumb and index finger pinch nostrils shut. Pinching sends pressure to the bleeding point on the nasal septum and often stops the flow of blood.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

I went through that with my father and two trips to the ER.  It was horrible.  He did have a deviated septum and was taking aspirin.  The last visit, the ER doc actually had to do a cauterization.  He also used to use a nasal spray daily and that  may have aggravated the condition Has your mother seen an ENT doctor?  If not, I suggest she do so.

Well....highly elevated blood pressure can cause nosebleeds.

I am sure she knows smoking isn't helping her stress or blood pressure.
