Nose picking related question.
Hi
I am 28 years old male. I have the bad habit of semi-extreme nose picking the several years now. I guess its a kind of stress behavior for me. I get occasional nose-picking related bleed which i can control. Now, when I look into my nose I seen a white patch that won't come off a part of a scar I guess with 'engorged' blood vessels near by. When I wake up in the morning the crustations are so dry to the the degree when I scarp it off the mucous has a bloody stained quality. Sorry for the iffy question and I know that nose picking is grouse but can any one help me about what to do? I cant help stopping it. Is it cancer from long term irritation?

wow. glad to know im not the only one here! I am a 21 year old female and i have a really bad habit of picking my nose also. ive had this since i was little and i really want to stop because it is embarrassing, i have a perforated septum and also a deviated septum... my doctor said it could be the cause. im to go see a specialist w/in a few months but i am afraid that if i get corrective surgery, ill just pick the habit right back up from where i left off and it will ruin the correction. ive tried pretty much everything to stop but i just cant i need some advice please because i dont want my nose to fall apart! lol it is a very disgusting habit that i am ashamed of and really need to kick.. please any advice helps !

i live in a dry place, i'll try increasing my water intake and topical ointment & see how things are gonna work out.

Hi,
Nose picking as become a habit for you, which you are finding difficult to get rid of. Try some water based nasal ointments to keep that part of nose (Little's area) moist which will eventually avoid the crust formation. Drink plenty of water so that keeps the mucosa hydrated. Trim your nails so that does not damage the nasal mucosa. The white area you mentioned might be a fibrosed mucosa secondary to the chronic nasal picking. Cancer is unusual to present in that site.
