Not strept so what is it?

What could this be?
I've been sick for 5 days now with,

Fever, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, muscle aches, cold chills, hot flashes, and headaches.
Now I notice that there is white patches on my tonsils and my lymph nodes on the left side are swollen.

strep test then told me it was negative and just something viral?

I dont feel they really looked into it as there was no blood work.

Does this sounds viral or more serious? The fever is on and off and never more than 101.0

I found a symptom checker for you, and I put in all the symptoms you mentioned.  There are several possible causes.  I do not like antibiotics without good cause, but usually if I am that sick, my doctor thinks it's bacterial even when it's negative for strep, and starts antibiotics.  It usually does turn around quite dramatically.  You did not mention the color of any phlegm you have seen.  If it is green they think it's viral, but if it's yellow, then they think it's bacterial.  Often it will start viral but get into the sinuses and turn bacterial.

Consider my usual treatment:  Zinc gluconate 50 mg a day for 4 days or more.  Hot chicken soup or broth.  Gargle with salt and baking soda in very warm water.  Saline nasal rinse if it's in the nose.  Mint tea.  lots of sleep.  Monitor the temp.  If it's 102, it must be bacterial.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The commonest pathogen (agent) causing throat infections is a group A Streptococcus bacteria. Besides this Group B Streptococcus, mycoplasma, neisseria and  cornybacterium  are known to cause throat infections. Other known pathogens causing infections of the throat are viral and yeast (candida). To begin with a throat swab is taken to see for streptococcus. If needed a throat culture will show the growth and the antibiotics to which the pathogens are most susceptible to. During culture it would be worthwhile to test for yeast infections also besides bacterial infections. Viral infections are by exclusion and do not need any antibiotic therapy unless there are superadded infections. Hope this clarifies your doubts.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
