An orange tongue can occur after ingestion, contact, or inhalation of certain chemicals, with the most common inducers being gold salts, beta blockers, antimalarials, thiazide diuretics, furosemide, spironolactone, and penicillamine. It can be caused by a delayed allergic reaction to medications for high blood pressure, heart disease and arthritis. It can also be caused by a delayed allergic reaction to amalgam (metal alloys) in dental restorations (fillings). I have been reading the different discussions on this and can't for the life of me figure out why nobody has been able to answer this question. If you are on meds for blood pressure or arthritis, often a change of the med will clear this up. As to why Bl1zzard developed it after his wife, I would suspect your water source. Some chemicals used to flush water systems and treat municipal water can also cause this reaction.
"He treated me with Flagyl, a perscription anti-fungal medication." Flagyl is not an anti-fungal, it is an antibiotic/anti-parasitic, and can in fact make any fungal infection worse. http://www.medicinenet.com/metronidazole/article.htm
I have to agree with you. My wife has had an ornage tongue for a few months now. She's seen her doctor and he gave her an antifungal medicine. Didn't help. Her dentist had no idea. Guess what? It's contagious. I have it now too. So what's next? We have no changes to our diet. We do not take any supplements as we feel our diet is sufficiently balanced. Nothing is changed, but apparently this is becoming a problem. I think it is food related, because it seems to be affecting more and more people. Someone has changed an ingredient in something we all use is my bet.
The other potential culprit I'd like to take a serious look at is soymilk. I drink alot of Silk Light Chocolate Soymilk. I read somewhere that soymilk can lead to fungal infections. I have sought medical treatment for my Orange tongue. My doctor is stumped. He treated me with Flagyl, a perscription anti-fungal medication. It did not help. My diet is high in Omega 3 oils and I supplement with Mega Red Omega 3 Krill oil almost every day. I believe there must be some commonality amongst all the orange tongue "victims" that link us together. Perhaps if we work together to focus on finding that cause we can get to the bottom of this mystery and figure out how it can be treated! Consider this A CALL TO ARMS to all the other Orange tongue people out there! We must put our heads together and find the missing piece to this puzzle!
