This food trap problem has a simple solution!
Had the same problem, was coughing for a week before I went to the hospital and the doctor thought it's a sore throat. Nothing done.
Eventually was too pissed off that I bought myself a water floss (Waterpik), put it on low pressure and flush out the small food particles. Just like you, the food particles were rotting at the back of the throat and there's traces of blood in phlegm.
Haha now I use the water floss for my teeth and my throat (in case of stuck food particle).
I think the food particle got trapped behind the throat when I was eating too fast. All the best for those who had the same problem as me. Cheers!

hi all - i have the same problem, and have recently had pneumonia and atelectasis( partial collapsed lung caused by thick mucus sticking the surfaces together) - its early days in my diagnosis but I also have laryngealpharyngeal reflux (or LPR)- basically GAS that come right up into nose, sinuses etc - and can be aspirated into lungs - this burns the delicate tissues of throat, palate, mouth, sinuses, and lungs, causing swelling and excess mucus production, which becomes very sticky, and traps tiny food particles like flypaper traps flies - happens above my soft palate when I swallow - sound familiar? LPR is treatable, but it is not the same as GERD, as the fumes are not always acid based - nevertheless they cause damage. If this sounds like any of you, it may be worth a look - best of luck to you all!
