I have the same problem. I went to my doctor a got a chest x-ray. It came back okay. He said that he's going to refer me to a nose & throat specialist.

This is probably from an infection in your throat or gums. Take a good look inside your mouth and look for anything that looks abnormal like a canker sore or receding gums that could be causing this. Because I am crazy, if I were spitting up blood I would be knocking down my doc's door. Sooner or later I would make an appointment with an ENT Specialist.
