Sudden Hearing Loss?

My doctor gave me prednisone pills for sudden hearing loss (went totally deaf -BOOM just like that!)... and large dose in form of a shot in my ear drum. But ever since I noticed my back has felt almost normal, when usually I have pain so that it hurts to move!  Now I can walk normally, and its sooo wonderful! No pain patches or hydrocodone.   I had heard that prednisone is bad for your bones, can I keep using this as a treatment for my back as well???  I have been thru it all...therpay, yoga, accupuncture....
No luck on the hearing part yet its been a month..another hearing test tomorrow.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give- seems not too many people have total hearing loss.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

If you have been weaned of the steroids and your hearing loss is static, then there is unlikely to be further improvement in your hearing. Have this confirmed with your consulting doctor and go for the hearing aids.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hello, and thank you for my ONLY reply! Unfortunately, as per the MRI and every other test- they have no reason as to why it happened. Every part of ear is good!  Went camping last weenend and went swimming..once hme I  could hear a dial tone on the phone!
Friday another hearing test said that I did improve, at hearing tones. But still can not hear or figure out the words if someone is talking.
Even the good ear (right) sounds muffled. But since I did get some hearing back, I am afraid to put out $5grand+ to get hearing aids!! Its NOT covered by my insurance! What if more hearing comes back???
So I am waiting on making a decision for a few months. After hearing test she did let me try hearing aids...so small...and I could hear her whispering. Can't tell you how great that sounded!!! Is there a chance that more hearing will come back??  What are thre odds?  Has it happened to anyone out there??

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Complete hearing loss could be due to many causes. Hearing loss is usually measured in decibels dB. Normal hearing is from 10-15 dB. Slight hearing loss is 16-25 dB. It occurs with disorders affecting the external, the middle or the inner ear. In the outer ears cerumen impaction or external otitis, in the middle ear fluid collection or  disease of the tympanic membrane and in the inner ear damage to the nerve endings can cause hearing loss. An ENT examination, auditory brainstem response (ABR), a computerized test of the hearing nerves and brain pathways and CT/MRI brain may be needed to diagnose the cause for hearing loss. Treatment lies in treating the underlying cause.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
