Sudden Strange Feeling In Ears

A moment ago I was listening to some music on my laptop on the laptop speakers and all of a sudden I had this weird experience in my both ears. It was like the feeling you get just before your ears pop, a pressure feeling. My hearing was muffled, and I felt like I was thrown off balance for a second. It only lasted a second or two but it scared the hell out of me.

It was sudden. It felt as if it passed from one ear to the other. Both ears were effected by it. Can't imagine it being a blockage because it happened in both ears at the same time.

It's the first time I've felt this for a long time. I have felt something similar before, but nothing like this.

Any ideas what this is caused by?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

In an entity called noise induced hearing loss, the hearing loss is due to exposure to either a sudden, loud noise or exposure to loud noises for a period of time. A dangerous sound is anything that is 85 dB or higher. Considering your profession it may be difficult to avoid. Good Luck with your consult.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Well, the problem is I can't seem to pop my ears at all. I just feel the pressure, but no pop.

I should have mentioned, but I'm a DJ, and music producer. 50% of the day I have a pair of headphones on for either DJing or making music through my headphones. I do listen to excessively loud music.

Could that be a possible cause?

I am going to see my doctor next week anyway.

As you've experienced this before, but had relief by holding your nostrils closed and blowing, which pops our ears, the fact that this isn't working for you now means you may have a middle ear infection or cochlea damage. Middle ear troubles can throw your balance out. I'd load up on Vitamin C and anti-oxidants but make an appt with an ENT specialist first. If it's an ear-infection or anything else serious, it's best to get your ears tested before damage is irreversible. You could end up with a condition called tinnitus, which is a constant noise in one or both ears, and nothing shuts it up as there is treatment. and it can drive you crazy! You could even lose your hearing. Keep the noise-level down when listening to music and TV too, as we don't realize how much damage we are doing to the delicate membranes and little hairs in our ears, and eardrums, to these wondrous organs of hearing.

Also, I just tried to pop my ears by holding my nose and when I do it I can feel the pressure build up but no pop. You know that pop you get, that feels like you've cleared your ears, I am not getting that.
