Nosebleed/Hemmorage

What is the proper first aid procedure for an elderly person to follow while awaiting 911 assistance for a nosebleed or hemmorage ... especially someone who is on anti-coagulation therapy due to atrial flutter/fib?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

The patient must be made to sit upright, this reduces blood pressure in the veins of the nose. Further she should be made to bend forward, this will avoid swallowing blood, which can irritate the stomach. Using the thumb and index finger pinch nostrils shut. Pinching sends pressure to the bleeding point on the nasal septum and often stops the flow of blood. And she will have to consult her doctor for adjusting her medication dosage.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
