Throat hurts when I swallow or yawn

My throat has been hurting for the past 5 days. It hurts when I yawn or swallow. Also, my throat is pink in color and not swollen. Please get back to me as soon as possible. I have my choir concert on Monday and I need to know if it's ok to sing or if it will affect my sore throat. Please let me know what's wrong. Also, my boyfriend had strep throat about 8 weeks ago. And I didn't kiss him or anything until about 5 weeks ago because I was afraid I would get strep. I don't know if that could be part if the cause or not. Please get back to me ASAP though. Thank you!!

You may have tonsil stones in your tonsils. Because they are hard, they can hurt when you yawn. The tissues in your pharynx become stretched during yawning, and the tonsil stones then press more the tissues around them.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
Throat infections can be caused by bacteria like streptococcus or it could be a viral infection. Bacterial infections need antibiotics. Try warm saline gargles. That may provide some relief. The other possibility based on your symptoms could be due to a post nasal drip, which can cause a chronic irritation in the throat. This could be due to a sinus infection, a cold or a chronic allergy. Voice rest is usually advised. Please discuss this with your doctor I am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.
