Throat irritation that leads to gagging three-years post surgery

I don't know how to explain what the feeling is that I get in the back of my throat, I refer to it as dry throat, even though I drink constantly. It causes me to gag horrifically until I'm coughing so hard I almost throw up. I've been experiencing this since I had my tonsils removed three years ago, and I'm at the point where I just can't take it anymore. PLease Help!
