White Uvula

I had an endoscopy done on Friday and my uvula was really swollen Friday night and Saturday morning. It was purple. It is now Sunday and it is still really swollen, but not nearly as bad as it was. It is no longer purple, but has turned white. I have gargled with salt water today. Any other suggestions for bringing the swelling down and why it is white?

You could also walk into any Chinese medicine store
and ask for "Water Melon Frost" powder.

It's a black powder made from water melon skin,
which you puff into your throat.

It has a nice cool minty taste, and helps with throat
conditions like yours. Can be used when you have
sore throat infections too, such as during the flu season.

It is quite safe, and you can use it when you need too.

You could try Difflam throat gargle, which may help
to reduce the inflammation, pain and irritation.

It contains a drug called Benzydamine, which is a
local acting antiinflammatory.

You can get it at any drugstore, I believe.

They also have it as sprays and lozenges.

I had ear surgery on Friday and my uvula was also traumatized during intubation.  Same exact discoloration and swelling as you.  I went back to the doc on Monday and he gave me a six day steriod regimen to take...which seems to be working as it is getting easier to talk and swallow.  He said I should be somewhat back to normal in a week or so.
