dry mouth problems

I'm a 47yr old female with extreme dry mouth. i've always been alittle dry due to meds. then iwas treated with Geodon which caused excess saliva to the point of nausea and vomiting. finally off of it and now my mouth is so dry-no amount of water, over the counter oral moistures, and eliminating all dry mouth causing drugs i can. taste has changed, spices i can even taste salt in my soda. roof of mouth is red, and hurts when swallowing----any ideas???

thanks for answering, have been  removing all the drugs that cause dry mouth symptoms. have seen two ENT drs. they dont have any ideas, especially with the red, painful palete...am awaiting a sinus catscan result to see if there is a clue there......

There are many causes of dry mouth. There are many causes of dry mouth. Xerostomia most commonly occurs as a side effect of many medications like medications for blood pressure, antihistamines, diuretics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, and many others.Few other causes of dry mouth are radiation treatments to the head and neck, salivary gland diseases, hormonal imbalance, diabetes and autoimmune disorders like Sjogrens syndrome,SLE,rheumatoid arthritis etc.A complete medical evaluation is necessary for appropriate diagnosis and management of your condition.
