I'll never forget my battle with tinnitus. It was literally a nightmare. I still struggle with it but not like I used to. It took about 15 months before I was able to accept it and begin dealing with it. There were periods where I did ok and then there were times when all I wanted to do was crawl in a dark hole and die. And then about 9 months into the ordeal I hit rock bottom. I literally fell to my knees and broke down. This was the point where all else failed and I started to realize that I had a huge problem that I was forced to live with for the rest of my life. I was tired from sleeplessness and just having to listen to the noise 24 hours a day (except for the times I could miraculously fall asleep). There were times I literally stumbled into work from tossing and turning all night long.
Somehow I chose to go on and with that things could only get better because you can't go down any farther than I already was. I slowly was able to habituate the noise and get more sleep which gave me more endurance and power to control the reaction to the noise. The following are things I looked into that helped me along.

you say you have allergies - would that be to milk or dairy? I notice my tinnitus is worse when I have more milk - I am dairy intolerant but can't seem to give it up in tea!!!
Have you had any success with the herbs? Gingko Biloba? Apparently there is an ayurvedic treatment that is meant to help. "ten drops of warm sesame oil is applied daily to each ear.' I am not a practitioner of this but someone who is also looking for a cure. If you like this idea google 'ayurvedic tinnitus treatment' or go to http://ayurveda-foryou.com/treat/tinnitus1.html
Good luck
I just posted with some head pressure that I have been having...I have had tinnitus for about 2 years...I see alot of "so-called" remedies out there and have read about alot of them. Never tried any of them because I still want to hold onto the hope that they will work..I have sorta gotten used to it the ringing.

No, I hadn't thought of that. However, I go to the dentist every 6 months and have had no problems with my jaw. I think tinnitus is just another one of those "age" problems!
I have tinnitus too. My ENT thinks it could be attributed to TMJ; have you asked about that?
