inflamed nose cartilidge

Hello,
I woke up three days ago and the bridge of my nose felt like I had been hit with a ball or something the day before. except i hadnt been hit with a ball. the next day it was worse. felt like I had been punched in the nose the day before. I of course had not been punched. the next day it was hard to blow my nose it was so tender. I couldnt even give my girlfriend a hug because my nose would brush against her. This morning it is yet worse and now you can kind of detect that it is now swollen as well. not red but definitely swollen. it is in the cartilage not the bone (whice does not hurt at all) but where the two meet seems to be the worst place. the tip of my nose is fine. It is not inside the nostril either it is in the cartilidge itself. if it was a mechanical injury I would expect improvement as the days have passed but the opposite is true. I also have no knowledge of an injury inside my nose that could have allowed an infection to enter the the junction betseen my nose bone and the cartilage. nothing has happened to me and this makes no sense. I have no other symptoms. no fever no bleeding no runny nose or wattery eyes. I am understandably worried about it as this location is obviously near my brain. I would hate to find out I had something unusual and or agressive in this particular area.
Please help!

Thought I was crazy too, I've been dealing with this off an on for the past three years. I have an auto immune condition, which precipitates these flare ups. The medical term "relapsing polychondritis" deals with this issue of cartilage inflamation. My symptoms would alternate from my ear, to the bridge and tip of nose. My ear would feel like someone was pulling me by it and would be so painful; my nose would feel like someone punched me in it, could'nt stand to touch it, it was awfully painful.

What is the name of your auto immune condition? I'm aware this is years later...

I have this type of swelling in my nose.  I am going to an ENT soon.  The only pictures I could find that resemble the same type of swelling as mine relates to a condition called nasal chondritis.  Yours, because of the ear thing, sounds like relapsing polychondritis.  Strange that your doctor never heard of it.  You should get this checked out since it can be potentially serious.

sounds like inflamation,is the skin red on your nose? I had some kind of boil under the skin on the side of my nose once and it swelled without bothering my skin, like a ingrown hair or clogged pore. better be checked out fast by your doctor. I don't know where the doctors are on this site I'm not getting any answers either.

I have had this issue for YEARS, except, it has been in my ear cartlidge.  This year it has flared up in my nose.  I have been to the Dr. a multitude of times, including an ENT.  He was the closest to helping me.  He, too, was baffled but concluded it to be inflammation of cartlidge--but had NEVER seen it in the ears or nose....usually in the chest.  He prescribed me steroids and it FINALLY....after years of meds....relieved it.  Mine comes and goes.  Like I said I have had this for years but it just flares up when it wants....it has been a year since my ear flared now my nose is flared.  Glad to know I'm not the only odd ball out there...my husband thinks I'm a nut...:)

You all were right, though this thread is old. I had the same whapped in the nose feeling and read your posts and went to see my doc. Got Nasonex for the inflammation, and antibiotics for the infection. I wrote about it in my humorous blog  www.melanomasuxballz.blogspot.com  I have also posted on this site about my husband's cancer.

This was AWESOME to find all these posts with exactly my symptoms. I thought I was crazy with the hurt nose issue going on!

Did anyone every find a reason for this?  On Monday morning I woke up with the EXACT same story as the lead story for this post.  It could have actually been my story.  As the week has gone on, it's getting larger and more painful.  Now my whole nose hurts horribly.  My sinuses are clear, no discharge, no obstruction, no congestions, just very very very painful nose cartlidge that started out primarily on one side and is getting larger every day.  Anyone... any suggestions?  I too am worried because of the close proximity to my brain.  I don't want to let it go too long and then get rushed to the hospital with meningitis...... ahhhh... I'm scaring myself.  Help... anyone?

I have the same thing. Had a CT scan done and no inflammation in the sinuses, but inflammation of the nasal cartilage, the doc said she had never seen anything like it and have no idea what could be wrong. Seeing another doctor on Monday. Have any of you found any answers yet? My nose bridge was slightly sore for a month before it became intense...SGLeo
