I just started having a similar problem, only on the right side.  It's mildly painful, feels like it's swollen but doesn't appear to be swollen, is affecting my jaw/face and causing a slight headache.  I think it's also making the muscles in my neck even more tense and knotted up from worrying about it.  I was just at the doctor's like a week before this started happening so I hate to go back for something else.  Did the sypmtoms you had with the polyp occur suddenly or over time?  I'm trying not to freak myself out thinking it's something major -- I'm hoping it will just go away since it's only been a few days, but it's really irritating.  Mine is the same - no real symptoms in the morning but they come on and get worse as the day goes on.
Sorry you're suffering...

you might want to go and have a test done for thyroid. I have had very similar affects such as yours and i am waiting for my thyroid test results. hope this helps.
