Eating disorder treatment facility

I am use to seeing the people who go into treatment facilities being very underweight. I am not underweight at all but I feel like I have lost control to my eating disorder. I am seeing a therapist but she is not trained in treating eating disorders (but I would not leave her because she is an amazing therapist). Does anyone think a treatment facility would be a good idea for me? I personally feel I am too fat to be in one and if I asked to be admitted to one, people would laugh in my face. My therapist believes I have EDNOS since I go between almost every eating disorder behavior (restricting, binging & purging, laxative abuse, etc.) and that is another reason I think I wouldnt belong in a treatment facility because I am not doing enough to lose weight.

Eating disorder treatment will be given accordingly.  Whether you are bulimic or anorexic, psychological and medical treatments are provided to your treatment program.

hey, you all know i am currently in a residental treatment center, and i can tell you there not just for girls with anorexica. I am not underwieght whatsoever, but i was still taken in here. there are 10 girls per unit, as far as looking heavy or not...i'd say that 6 of them are smaller than me and 3 of them are larger than me...only 2 are on weight gain plans...so you don't have to be really thin to come.
if you want help, and you feel like life is out of control go to a treatment center....its hard adn sometimes it really *****, but i know its the right thing to do.

If you feel like you've lost control, you should deffinetely go. EVERYONE who goes into those facilities feels like theyre too over weight to be there (I wont say my weight or anything but I was very malnurished when I was admitted to one and I still felt like the "fat kid") no one would make fun of you, everyones there for the same (although different variations) reasons and is very supportive.
The one thing I do warn you of if you do go, I warn you that you absoloutly must stay focused on getting yourself better. It can be very hard because I believe theres quite a bunch of people out there that go in there for the attention and are always causing problems and making sure everyone knows that theyre not eating or doing whatever they do. If you want to get better you have to go in with the mindset of only getting better, not nessasarily making any friend (in fact most hospitals advise you not to talk to anyone you were in the hospital with after you leave)

Please seek some sort of help though! I have been in recovery for the last year and am finally feeling as though I'm in remission and even though it's been incredibly hard it's totally worth it- I feel so much happier and better!

Treatment facilities unless they describe themselves specifically as Anorexia Programs are for all types of eating disorders. Sometimes people are severely underweight are pushed to go to treatment because they or someone who loves them are seriously concerned about their health. However, ALL forms of eating disorders can be seriously damaging to your health and to your emotional well-being which is also very important.

There is no such thing as being too fat to go to an eating disorder treatment program, and nobody would ever laugh at you. Also "doing enough to lose weight" is not a criteria for admission; what you learn in an ED program is to remove your obsession with weight altogether and learn how to live the way other people do, but that people like us need help to accomplish.

Have you spoken with your therapist about this? Perhaps she can help you find a program that will work for you, or even make the referral for you. Again, being severely underweight is not a requirement for ED programs.
