Medication options for Bulimia without weight gain

I have been struggling with Bulima for 3 and a half years now and Im getting help.  I want to try a drug to help me with the withdrawel affects of the crutch of eating for emotional needs.  My Psychiatrist said Celexa, Prozac or Zoloft are my options.  Celexa being the main one.

I am concerned that I will gain weight though from their affects.  I am also concerned it will increase my appetite.

Will it help me with my mental addiction for the need to eat all the time?

Can anybody help me?  Has anybody had experience with it?

Please help me!

Well, I was actually going to suggest Topamax as another person stated. I was hesitant to say it though because if you struggle with restriction then it's probably not the medication to take. I tried every medication I (it seems like) and nothing worked when I was really bulimic, and nothing worked until I was finally put on Topamax. It's not a miracle drug or anything, but with therapy, it should help a lot. It did me anyway.

Also, another thing that will help is to not be restrictive. For example, you say you are restrictive with carbs (when you're keeping it in). That mindset ultimately sets you up for bingeing because you are telling yourself that it's bad. The truth is, there's nothing wrong with carbohydrates. You NEED them. It's energy. If you let yourself have food without restricting anything, you won't be training yourself to think of it as "forbidden, bad, or off limits." You won't crave it as much if you let yourself eat it in moderation and not restrict it. Does that make any sense? Hang in there. I know how rough bulimia is. Feel free to message me if you want/need to. Hope you're doing okay today.

I've tried Topamax and had really great results with all of my disorders - bulimia, drinking, depression. It even caused me to lose weight, which I loved of course. The side effects, however, can be pretty rough. Go to www.mywayout.org for more information or just google topamax. My Way Out is mostly for drinkers because topa has shown to be very helpful in that area. The worst side effect for me on topa was feeling extremely irritable. I didn't want to be a mean mom, so I had to go off it. The only other solution for me would be to combine topa with wellbutrin or prozac or something else to curb the anger side effect.

Wellbutrin, by the way, is another SSRI but will actually cause weight loss, unlike the others you mentioned. I was on that, too, but it's not supposed to be prescribed to people with ED's because of the risk of seizures. I never had a seizure, and I loved the weight loss. Doctor finally figured out that I shouldn't be on it because of my ED, so he wouldn't prescribe it.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

Do you also struggle with anorexia or feel like you would if you weren't bulimic? I might know of a medication or two that would help either way.
