Diagnosed!!

Hi Everyone, I just found out I have ednometriosis this week after i went in for a routine operation to get a cyst removed on my left ovary it was 8x6cm.  Thank god i didnt lose my ovary but they told me i have endo and it really scared me he also said there is a bit of it on my right ovary. i am only 25 and have no children. Children mean the world to me and i would just die if i couldnt have any. he said i wasnt mild but i wasnt severe either and they are putting me on the contraceptive pill for 3months back to back to see if that calms it down.  This worries me so much that i am going to start trying to have a child in 2 1/2 years when my bf is finished college. Do you think it will be to late at that point?

Thanks Mom. wow 16 yrs old you were so young. do you mind me asking how old you were when you had your daughter. i think i had this condition since i started my period at 14. it just wasnt diagnosed til now 11 yrs on. Im def considering having a child in 2 1/2 years as i want to have 4 children I am afraid if i wait then that could stop me having them all together. Hoping your luck changes and you'll have another little munchkin soon :)

I was diagnosed with endo when I was 16, the doctor that I was seeing at the time said I would most likely not have children, I fooled him wrong!  Had a beautiful baby girl who was healthy as can be.  I had severe complications at the end of the pregnancy which left me with a nice cesarian scar but it goes along with all of the other scars I have from my multiple laps.  I went through 2 rounds of Lupron for 2 years and was advised that if I want any other children to not do it again.  I tried the b.c. method and it did not work for me, doesn't mean it won't work for you.  My system rejected the birth control and I bled continuously for months.  I am in limbo as well wondering if I will be able to have another child or not.  My husband and I feel blessed that we were able to have one child but after having a miscarriage it has diminished our hopes of another.  You never know what is going to happen and there are so many ways to help medically now to conceive that when you are ready if you cannot get pregnant naturally there is help out there that will aid you in the process.  Keep your chin up and worry about the now instead of the future, I know it is easier said then done b/c I am going through the same process but until a few days ago I had no hope at all, things can turn around.

thank you so much. im kinda scared to take the pill for that long in fear of my system not goin back to normal. i wonder if they did that HSG test on me. i had the lapro so they did open me up i assume they cleaned it up when they were in there i think he said there was some on my right ovary the cyst was on the left. :( has anyone ever frozen eggs in a case of endo. ive been trying to look it up but not that easy to find that many in Ireland. dont know how much it costs either.

HSG is hysterosalpinogram, it's a test where they run a dye through your tubes to make sure they're free of blockages and adhesions and RE is a reproductive endocrinoligist.  It's okay to ask, it took me a while to catch on to it too.  You need to ask what stage your endo is, if there are any adhesions that may cause you problems in the future and ask about treatment, my suggestion is to check in to things that will supress the estrogen in your body.  Which probably means bc pills since they really have no effect on your fertility if/when you decide it's the right time for children, you can simply stop taking them.  Since they've already put you on bc that's probably what he's decided is best for you at this time...take them faithfully, you don't want your hormone levels going up and down, you need to keep them steady.  Endo is fed by estrogen, so he put you on the bc pills continuously to keep the estrogen at bay.  When you take them as they are usually prescribed, 3 weeks on and then 1 week of inactive pills to start your period those inactive pills will let the estrogen surge, that's when the endo grows and causes the pain.  I took them for about 4 years without having a period and did pretty well as far as the pain goes...unfortunately it only took about 2 or 3 months of being off of them for the pain to come back and it seemed worse than before.  Just holler if you need anything else ;)

I'd never had an HSG until I went to a RE and he did my last lap, but even being stage IV with adhesions all over my tubes were clear so chin up, things aren't always as bad as they appear.  You're right, in some cases too much information is a bad thing, but not necessarily when it comes to your health.

My endo is stage IV as well, as a matter of fact, my numbers are off the charts and my RE never told me that babies weren't a possibility, only that we may need help in conceiving.  So, don't lose hope!

I have had endo since i was 15yrs old, after my child the endometriosis became worse. They say it should make it better but it didnt at all.  I think because after having my daughter my hormones were all over the place it didnt help one bit.  I think that it depends on the persons body and everyone is different. I really wouldnt worry about it until the time comes.  It took about a year and a half to concieve but i did.

I too have had a healthy normal pregnancy, even with the endo.  That was almost 15 year ago, I don't know what stage your endo is but don't let it keep you from having a baby...there are lots of ways to help you conceive if you have trouble doing it naturally.
