Is Lupron really worth it?

I recently had surgery for endo, and my dr. wants me to do 6 months of Lupron injections. I keep reading horrible things about Lupron, like that the side effects might never go away, etc. I'm due for my fourth shot soon, and although I haven't had a bad experience with Lupron, just the expected hot flashes, night sweats and joint pain, I'm not sure I want to continue on them because we want to ttc very soon. I would really love some input from other people because I'm having a hard time deciding on my own if I should quit the shots early. Does anyone think it will significantly lower my chances of getting pregnant if I don't do 6 months of it? Is it worth the risk of developing another cyst on my only ovary before I get pregnant, or should I be mainly concerned with the long term effects of Lupron? Any input would be helpful..thank you.

It is really hard to say that if you quit the Lupron early it will harm your chances of conceiving and/or increase your chances of getting another cyst.  If you are tolerating the Lupron well enough, stick with it if you can.

I do understand the anxiety about wanting to ttc again-that is the hard part about doing Lupron.  Have you talked with your doctor about a plan?  The first time I did Lupron for 6 months, I had a doctor's appointment about 6 weeks or so after my last injection and I hadn't gotten my period yet.  I told my doctor I was very anxious to resume ttc and I started taking Provera and within 10 days, my period returned.

Maybe talk with your doctor to get a plan together and let him/her know that you don't want to wait a long time for your period so you can start ttc as soon as you are able to.  I conceived 2 of my pregnancies after Lupron-one with injections (to jump start my ovaries) and one without medical assistance.

I was on Lupron for 9 months and was ttc right after it did nothing for me.  I recently found out one ovary is not functioning anymore and the other is attached to my uterus.  Looks like IVF or another Lap.  I am just very leery about it's actual success!

I had a Lap and 6 mos of Lupron followed by another Lap.  It was FRUSTRATING!!!  I HATED Lupron.  It didn't work for me but I have heard that it has worked wonders for others.  It is such a hard decision.
I wasn't able to get pregnant again and had to have a hysterectomy.  My Endo was on the outsides of my organs and caused a ton of issues.

My doctor told me that doing the 6 months of Lupron will help "kill-off" any endo that is left behind after the surgery that couldn't be lasered out.  I believe that this will INCREASE your chances of getting pregnant.  That only problem is that you have to wait for your period to return after doing the Lupron.  I completed my last month of injections in February.  I took the ortho evra patch for March, and then I took it off and got my period right away which was good.  I've heard it both ways that it can take a few months for your period to return.  I think you should check with your doctor to see how important it is to complete the total 6 months considering you want to TTC soon.  I wouldn't want to risk getting another cyst, but if you want to TTC and need your period to return before you try....
I hope that helps!!
