My period came early and i was concerned I'd have to reschedule but since he put me on the pill for 3 weeks I can have the surgery at anytime. He also said worst case scenario is I have a period during surgery which will be ok since he's doing just the laparoscpy and tube check and not a hystoscopy.(? looking in uterus). So hopefully I won't have AF. Good news is I'll have at least 2 weeks to recover before ovulation so hopefully we can catch the egg inMay :-)
Thank you :-) we've been TTC and I know I'm not pregnant but its frustrating waitig until monday to know for sure just b/c I feel like I can't start making arrangements for kids and such until I'm positive I'm getting the procedure. Since I know I'm not I'm hoping AF just shows early :-)
Well Good Luck and if you have any questions feel free to post or send me a message :-) Keep us updated on your outcome!!
Check out the thread that says Explaining Endometriosis and Symptoms and see if that helps you out at all. Again, Good Luck!
I'm scheduled for the procedure on May 3rd. I'm really getting nervous about it. But I'm really thining I'll need to just do it otherwise I'll never get answers...
Thank you!!! I've been under general for wisdom teeth and another time for an extra tooth, overcrowded, an endoscopy and tonsils. However, all were very out patient and I've never had surgery in the hospital. I'm sure the doc will give me lots more info at my pre-op appt and I'm also to meet with the anesthesiologist at that time. At my appt we didnt discuss it in detail b/c I wasn't sure I wanted to do it. However, since I dont want hormones as we're TTC it seems to be my only option other than to just wait several months which I'm not really up for given the come back of pain.
I appreciate all the detail. Thank you!
Well it definitely can be endo especially if your doc has said they believe so. Some people do have clear ultrasounds and still have the disease. Endometriosis is not picked up by ultrasound, CatScan nor MRI. It can only be identified by surgery.
I've had 5 laps done, the last being much more invasive b/c I was having more done including a hysterectomy.
As for the lap, most doctors want you to be on a clear liquid diet the day before (some however do not...) and also do a bowel prep the night before. You'll purchase the laxative of your doctors choice and drink up :/ Not fun, but necessary just in case there is endo on your bowels and they have to be invasive. You don't want stool going into your abdomen.
You'll get to the hospital the morning of your surgery where you'll be hooked up to an IV to replace fluids you lost through the bowel prep and keep you hydrated. You may be given some anti nausea meds to help you afterward since anesthesia can make you nauseated. The nurse will ask you a bunch of questions and then you'll also talk to the anesthesiologist who will also ask a series of questions. Usually your doctor will come to see you in pre-op before the surgery. Before surgery you will also get a nice little medicine to calm your nerves and help you relax, generally you will be sleepy. When you get into the operating room, it is cold in there! But the lights are bright and you'll slide over the operating table. Next they'll place pads around your hear to monitor you and also a blood pressure cuff and a little device on your finger to monitor your oxygen level. You'll get a mask over your mouth and nose and be told to breathe in and around that time they will tell you that you'll be getting the anesthesia administered in your IV. Count backwards from 100 and you'll be asleep :-)
As for recovery, usually a week and you'll feel pretty good, but not 100%. By week 2, you should be normal. After surgery you'll notice that your shoulder will hurt, and it's not comfortable - it's just the gas they use to inflate your abdomen. You can help it along to get out by getting up and walking and ask your doctor about the use of a heating pad on it and taking Gas X.
Lol, you probably weren't expecting all of that but I wasn't sure if you've had surgery before. It's always nice to know what to expect when you go in.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me :-) But I'll get off here now before I write a novel lol!!
