On continuous birth control and period wont stop

I had my lap surgery in  August 09, and have been on continuous BC since October 09 and my period (or breakthrough bleeding) hasn't stopped since I switched over - now going on 7 months! Previously I was taking Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo and since October I've tried Ortho Cyclen, Necon 1/35 (Ortho-Novum), Apri (Desogen), and now Zovia (Demulen). Sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone who has tried taking continuous BC to stop their period have any insights on how long it took? I'm starting to go a little crazy and wondering if it's ever going to go away...

I have been on Marvelon21 for the last 4 yrs since my surgery.  Breakthrough bleeding comes like clock work every 3 months.  I have no side effects whatsoever, I love it.

Depo can have wonderful results :)

I was on Depo for 3 years, It worked well for 1 of those.. but I seem to be intolerant to everything of late.
It could work for you!
I do emphasise the bone denisty lowering, I gained osteoporsis in my hips from it. So be cautious if you get on it. But its deffinately worth a try! :D

Goodluck!

Hi Lauren,

I'm adding this to my watch list because I'm experiencing the same thing. I agree that it's probably time for another visit to the doctor. I have heard good things about Depo as well.

Wishing you good health!

Hey there,

I have the same problem and they have stopped trying BCP's on me. Have you tried Depo Provera? That can work, it stops your period also. It can cause weight gain and bone density thinning and I *think* depression but its not common the depression I dont think. If you keep a balanced diet the weight gain often isnt a problem, its more an increase in apetite.

Have you been back to your doctor about it? It would deffinately be worth going back, 7 months is a bit too long!

All the best,
*hugs*
