Questions for people who have endometriosis..

Hi I'm a 15 year old girl and I want to ask some questions first hand to people who have this condition because I am very interested in this condition and similarities between people who have it. I also want to take some precautions as to not getting it because i have a family history of it.

They might be kind of personal... Sorry
1. What age were you diagnosed with it and how old are you now?
2. Did the doctor think you got it because of retrograde menstruation, or some other reason, if so what?
3. Did you use tampons, pads, or menstrual cups, or all? Which one more often than others? Did you use the others even ones even once?
4. If tampons or pads, were they the bleached kind with dioxin? Or a special non-bleached kind?
5. If menstrual cup, were they the soft cups, or the reusable bell shaped kind?
6. Did you eat meats of high fat concentrate often?
7. Did you practice any kind of gymnastics or yoga (which involved raising your legs above your torso or headstands, flips, sideways stretching etc.) while you were on your period before or at the time of diagnosis? If not, what exercises did you practice?
8. Do you have a family history of endometriosis?
9.Is sex too painful for you to have, or just a little?
10. Before or at the time of diagnose, did you ever have sex on your period?
I'd love to talk more on this.. But that's all for now!
Thanks!!!

I was diagnosed with endo at 25, I am almost 40 now.  I did competitive gymnastics as a teen.  I usually used pads, occassionally tamons until age 25 when diagnosed with dysplacia.  I ate meat a few times a week.  Sex only became painful about 7 years ago but I find it more painful for about 24 hours after sex.  I have had sex on my period a few times and I have absolutely no family hystory of endo.

1. I was diagnosed just over a year ago, at 18, and I'm now 19. I actually only got my period for the first time when I was nearly 17 and (clearly) had severe problems from the start.
2. There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding endometriosis: the doctor is unsure what my cause is.
3. I only use pads.
4. Not sure sorry! The brand I use is Libra or U by Kotex.
5. Never used any kind.
6. No - I don't eat meat alll that often anyway, and when I do it's almost always lean.
7. No: I've never done yoga or gym. Exercise-wise, I run, cycle, skip (with a skipping rope) and walk.
8. No, although my mother and aunt (on my father's side) apparently both had very bad period pain.
9. I'm a virgin.
10. See above.

No that theory is old and is the most popular. If the theory was correct that would mean that Endo cells are like normal cells and they are not.

Dr. Redwine who is a retired Endo surgeon and specialist has a great website that you should check out. He is wonderful and he knows his stuff.

In all honestly there is nothing that can really be avoided. You will either have it or not. A lot of women I know never used Tampons and they have it, I did use Tampons the entire time and I do as well.

The Endo diet will only helps with bloating not with stopping the growths.

I have the fear you are having with my 10 yr old daughter. I have done everything I can to ensure that Endo will not get her but I won't know until its time and its just how this disease is.

If you have immediate family with Endo that puts you at risk 10 fold. It could skip though there is no way to tell.

My mother, her two sisters and my cousin on my moms side all had it. But both my sisters do not. So not sure why they don't and I do. Unless they do have it and its asymptomatic.

Sex has hurt for me since the day I lost my virginity it has never felt okay and I think of sex as torture if I am honest. I hate it.

I am going to send you an message now with some links for you to check out :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions! And so your condition has nothing to do with retrograde menstruation? I'm so confused about retrograde menstruation at the moment. And I'm so paranoid that I don't even wanna bend sideways on my period so that the tissue doesn't go back down the tubes and into my ovaries again! But then I read somewhere that the process of the tissues being pumped from the ovaries through the Fallopian tubes into the uterus begins around day 14 of a 28 days menstrual cycle. Does that mean I should bend sideways from day 14 to day 28 if I want to be 100% safe?? So confusing! But nevertheless I will find out.
And I have another little bit personal question, is sex so painful that you never have it? Because I have a family history and just in case I develop this condition, I want to know if its really painful that I should take extra precautionary steps and avoid tampons and menstrual cups.. Thanks again! Your wonderful for taking the time out for answering those questions!

Endometriosis is hereditary. Eating the Endo diet can help with bloating but won't stop the lesions from growing. Taking a bcp continuously if you do have pain is effective for me and has been for 8 yrs. I don't get a period and don't ovulate so I don't get pain but if I come off it I'm done it's excruciating.

Great questions there might not be many people that come along but I will help you with these.

1) I was diagnosed at 27 yrs old. I was in pain starting at my second period at 13 yrs old started to get rectal pain at 15. Diagnosed with stage IV in 2007.

2) there are many theories as to how someone gets Endo retrograde being one. Rectovaginal Endo which I had seems to mutate differently than pelvic Endo. Some think you are born with it and something triggers it . My doctor didn't say anything about why he felt I had it however my mothers side have Endo and almost all stage IV

3)  tampons from the beginning

4) tampax not sure if bleached or not don't et a period now but I can't seem to be able to use them anymore anyways

6) grew up on home cooked meals red meat yes lots of meat actually mostly chicken
