What should I expect at a Gynecologist?

Hi! Yesterday I went to the doctor and think that my problem is endometriosis, they have reffered me to a gynecologist which I am terrified for! What should I expect?  I am a 17 year old female :) If they do examinations will it hurt and also what do they do during a ultrasound? :) Thanks!

Dude I know what you mean! I hadn't ever been to a gyno until last December and I was terrified. Don't worry though.  The whole idea might be super awkward, but they're doctors. They've seen anything and everything--it's not awkward for them at all, which makes things more laid-back.
I have endometriosis, so I can tell you what that "do-I-have-this?" appointment looked like for me.
They did require a pap smear. I'll be honest with you, those can be painful. But I had an ER doc do it on me; gynos know WAY more about what they're doing, so I wouldn't worry too much about it! And it's over pretty quick. The less you worry, the easier it is. :)
They'll almost definitely have you do an ultrasound to see if there are any cysts on your ovaries (specifically endometriomas). Kinda weird, but not really painful. Kinda cool to see inside your body too haha.
If they find endometriomas, and your medical problems line up with endometriosis symptoms...they'll probably suggest a laparoscopy. I've been there, too--so if you have questions about that you can message me.

Note: DO NOT LET ANY GYNO TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE DIAGNOSED WITH ENDOMETRIOSIS, WITHOUT HAVING A LAPAROSCOPY. You can research it yourself--it CANNOT be officially diagnosed without a laparoscopy! They could be totally wrong!

I hope this appointment helps you figure out what's going on. I know it's weird to go to the gyno, but seriously, you don't need to be worried. I've only ever had good experiences with them. :)
