Can these symptoms be recurring mono effects?? Please help

Hey everyone, I was diagnosed with mono in Oct. of 2008 when i was a freshman at college, I'm 19 now. It basically ruined my life for the semester. Ever since then, i have not felt the same. Around the same time, my wisdom teeth started to come in,and the doc said i needed to have them out because the two on the bottom of my mouth are partially erupted and cause infections. I have yet to have them out. I have been suffering health problems that i do not know the answer to ever since these two things happened to me.

I have many symptoms. I have had constant swollen glands and lymph nodes in my neck that throb on and off ever since my wisdom teeth came in. I have developed a constant nasal drip for the past year with a constant cough with phlem and mucous. My ears and eyes are always sore because of sinus pressure. I had a chest x=ray and ultrasound, and the doctor said everything is clear. No matter what i get put on (ex. z pack, allergy meds.) the sinus symptoms and glands persist. I am constantly tired, (although i live the college lifestyle, i still manage to get 8 hours of sleep), and when i wake up my joints and whole body ache, especially my legs. Throughout the day, I will get spells of tiredness where i will feel like I'm going to pass out on the spot, and i generally feel disconnected and like i'm becoming stupider. I became very sick over the past year and half 3 or 4 times, and was finally referred to an infectious disease doctor. He told me that I was healthy and that most of my symptoms were probably recurring mono because i had such a bad case, and that the symptoms may persist for years to come. I constantly worry about my health and half of this stuff is probably in my head, but recently, i have had constant neck pain with a stiff neck, my armpits and groin are sore and hurt and the above symptoms continue to occur. Has anyone with mono and wisdom teeth problems had these symptoms? What can it be?

I'm mucho older....but have dealt with many infections including mono as an older adult.  Be sure they checked your hormone levels ESP thyroid...mine was chronically low for years and thus made me more susceptible to infections.  Get those wisdom teeth out BUT take antibiotics before the procedure.  Also, have they checked for Lymes?  Fatigue is a big pain in the butt!!!

Thanks alot for the response. Im glad someone else went through what I'm going through. I think it has a lot more to do with my infected wisdom tooth that Ive put off for the past year, cause now i just recently discovered i have oral thrush on my tongue, which is just bugging me out more. I'm going to the oral surgeon tomorrow and getting put on amaxycilin, hopefully this clears me up, and am going to get my wisdom teeth out asap.

Sorry for the multiple posts, but I keep thinking of more things to say!  As far as feeling disconnected or stupider, I honestly went through the same thing.  I think it's the result of being too tired to function normally (your "tiredness spells" also point toward this).  I would just like to stress the point that you really ought to be getting more rest (doesn't necessarily have to be sleep) than you are.

Btw, I initially got sick with mono in May 2007, and it took almost 2 years to even get back to feeling decent.  Just wanted to let you know my timeline, in case you were curious.

Hello and welcome!  Sorry to hear that these things aren't clearing up for you.  I had my wisdom teeth out a couple years before I got mono, so I can't really relate to you there.  It's probably not good that your erupted wisdom teeth are causing infections, but it sounds like the main culprit here is EBV.  I think your ID doctor was right on with his diagnosis.  I don't know if this helps you feel better or not, but the specialist I went to said basically the same thing; that mine was a severe case and may take quite a while to recover.  In my case, it took well over a year; honestly, I'm not back to where I was before the sickness, but I'm doing WAY better than when I was "really" sick.  For me, it just took a lot of rest and trying to "take it easy".  Unfortunately that probably won't be easy for you, being a college student, but it's really the only solution, as far as I've heard.  Also, the pain regions you mentioned are all sites of glands which can become swollen/tender due to the infection (this is normal).  Hopefully the sooner you can get ahead of the sickness, the sooner you can recover (Yes, it is possible!)!  Hope this has helped!
