Well I am confused. I have been ill for 10 years going down slowly, and could have MS, and now long story Lymes. I have been having extensive tests for Lymes and many blood tests by a private clinic. They have found I have a co infection of Lymes and probably Lymes. BUT also alongside a load of deficiencys they found I have EBV and CMV. My doctor said my EBV levels were at 98 whatever that means. There are also other things like positive rheumatoid factors, fungal antibodies, and a few other things lol.

Now I dont have CFS. I was told that at the beginning. I do not get chronic fatigue, infact my energy levels in the morning is not too bad, its just the pain that wears me out and my energy depletes from 3pm. I actually sleep really well too and only wake up in pain, but usually go back to sleep with 1 diazepam.

Now what worries me is this. My husband has problems at the moment with his liver. He is having a liver scan on Monday. He is always tired and has no energy. On his blood tests in May it showed it had EBV infection at some point.

So did he give it to me, or did i give it to him, and could his EBV be the cause of so many gastric problems he has had since October. He came back from Indonesia and has had odd things really bad pain etc they thought he had gallstones, nothing, biliary blockage nothing.

He is getting sicker. His liver enzymes are in a mess.

He cant do anything without feeling exhausted. For example on saturday he had to move a few things, and by the afternoon i thought he would pass out, he looked dreadful. He recovered though with rest and a good sleep. He doesnt seem to be able to do very much of anything.

He is 67, and sadly has COPD and still works, but not sure now what is COPD and what is the liver problem.

Anyway sorry could we have passed it to each other and could he now have CFS? It would fit. I know about M.E. and CFS as my daughter has it. I am very worried about him now.

Let me know how the liver scan goes. As for the EBV you will probably have no more problems yourself but can transmit it to others like mono, by kissing. It is in the Herpes family so EBV stays in the nerve cells and comes out at times and becomes infectious. Yes my family practise doctor just told me about chronic fatigue being from Herpes. I knew that they had decided it wasn't from EBV but didn't know until last week that it was from Herpes (not simplex I or II).

Hi thanks no it was a past infection.

I actually agree with you about the parasite i have said all along its more likely liver fluke, as when he came back he was taken to hospital with suspected DTV, but they never found anything and then he was taken in with biliary liver problems they thought he had gall stones, nothing found.

Thats interesting to read about EBV not being the cause of ME. I had heard about something about the herpes but didnt take much notice.

Yes he has had COPD for several years and has to keep an emergency medical pack with him, containing antibiotics and steroids and numerous puffers, he also has asthma too.

Is there anything i should worry about with my EBV? I didnt even know i had it lol, she said it was 98 and it should be less than 5 lol. Not sure what to make of it all to be honest.

Well did he have current EBV or past infection? The doctor can tell you that. It depends on the type of antibody they detected. If it is a past infection then he could stlll transmit it to you but generally he would not have symptoms as you would from a new infection. I wonder if he got a parasite from Indonesia that is infecting the liver? Has he had any kind of scans for the liver? COPD is short for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. I think it can be caused by asthma, fungal infections (since he had a positive fungal antibody this makes sense) and so forth. If he has a fungus in the lung causing the COPD he has to go on steroids plus a long term antibiotic. It is best to catch it early. There is new data that states that chronic fatigue syndrome isn't from EBV rather from a particular strain of Herpes ( I think type 86 but not 100% sure ). So he needs to get checked by maybe an infectious disease doctor for the COPD and the parasitology test. Has he had any scans of the liver and lung?
