Good advice from the people who posted here, with one exception:  many people (not the majority, but still, more than just a few) take well over 1 month to get over mono/EBV, even if they're otherwise completely healthy.  For me, it took over a year!  It's just different for everyone, but it also depends on how your body reacts to the infection, as well as what you do to help it (Rest, rest, rest!!!).  As far as HIV being linked to EBV, there is no link at all, as lake32 said.  The only link is that most people who have HIV have EBV, but the same goes for people who don't have HIV; there's still a very high percent that have contracted EBV.  Hope this helps!

My 11 year old son had EBV and he was extremely ill but never was it linked to HIV.  We had many dr's and long hospital stay.  Never was that a focus.  He was tested for HIV among 80 other tests.  Get tested if you are concerned to put your mind at ease.  Goodluck!

Where ever did you read, hear or think of that? No 90 to 95% of people will have ebv in there life time. Ebv is mono the kissing disease. It's a member of the herpes family. The only difference if you have ebv your body's immune system fights off the infection after maybe 1 month at longest. Unless you have chronic ebv it can take longer. As for HIV in combination with ebv it does happen making a person HIV poz harder to fight off the ebv. Hope this helps.
