I have some questions regarding my sister's test results.

20 years ago she had Epstein Barr. Just recently she has had extreme tiredness and thyroid problems. They did a thyroid ultrasound and found 3 nodules. CBC was normal. They also ran all the EBV tests. All were normal except the EBV-EA test. (normal range <120) and she was 140. Her Dr immediately said "you have cancer, you need chemo, your hair will fall out and you will lose your voice" I do not like the way this Dr has approached this matter and quite honestly don't believe her. What does a slightly elevated EBV-EA test really mean?

EBV Early Antigen (“EA”) Antibody IgG. This antibody may not only be detected during an active EBV infection, such as in patients with mononucleosis, but it may also be found in patients who have chronic active or reactivated EBV infection. Thus, while EBV IgG levels typically indicate antibodies have formed as a result of past exposure, EBV IgM and/or EBV EA IgG antibodies may both be used to diagnose and/or monitor a current or recurrent case of EBV.
