MARIBAVIR has proved very effective and nontoxic treating Epstein-Barr Infectious Mononucleosis. Medical papers on the subject published on widely circulated medical journals as flws:

I have to cope with recurrent relapses of EBV.

Does anybody know whether there is a way to get access to this new drug?

Hey is miribivar still out there? I would love to hear about that and bone marrow transplant patients to see how it's going. I've had ME/CFS for 26 years. Desperate for cure.

Hi! MARIBAVIR is an experimental oral antiviral drug candidate licensed by ViroPharma from GlaxoSmithKline in 2003 for the prevention and treatment of human cytomegalovirus disease in hematopoietic stem cell/bone marrow transplant patients. It showed promise in Phase II clinical trials and was granted fast track status, but failed to meet study goals in a Phase III trial. (Pls check "MARIBAVIR" on Wikipedia).

However the drug proved to be very effective in treating EBV. The main researches on efficacy of MARIBAVIR to treat EBV have been carried out since 2003 by Prof. Joseph S. Pagano et al. at Chapel Hill University (NC). (Pls check the links provided in my previous post). Moreover pls check Prof. Joseph S. Pagano's medical papers on Google Scholars, he is carrying out in-depth researches on EBV since many years, due to the fact that the virus is considered to be the underlying cause for many kinds of malignancies (lymphomas), Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and aggressive NK-cell leukemia.

If you are considering to ask your doctor about MARIBAVIR I kindly advise to show him the medical papers I have referred to in my previous post. MARIBARY is a very new breakthrough (last very important medical paper on the subject is dated Sept.09) so I don't expect many doctors to be already acquainted with the issue.

Recurrent Active EBV (CAEBV) is endemic in Far East (Japan - Korea). CAEBV is a high mortality and morbidity disease with life-threatening complications. Nevertheless, the treatment regimens for CAEBV have not yet been established.
Allogeneic bone marrow transplantation and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation have been tried with some success in Japan.

Moreover treatment based on infusions of autologous Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)–specific cytotoxic T cells has proved quite effective in the past.

Ref your question about throat infections: my tonsils have been surgically removed when I was 6 years old. Obviously I do get recurrent upper respiratory tract infections, i.e. rhinitis (right side), pharyngitis (right side), laryngitis (right side), uvula megaly, as well as gingival ulcers (both sides), measles like erythema on the genitals, sudden left arm paresthesia, sudden diarrhea followed by 1 to 2 days constipation, sudden episodes of light angina pectoris of short duration. Almost all symptoms showing at relapse on-set.

Last week I wrote a letter to Prof. Pagano ref MARIBAVIR but I didn't receive any reply so far.

Hey! I haven't ever heard of this? Is it brand new? I will ask my doctor about it. I am supposed to be starting something called "transfer factor plasmyc" that is supposed to rid me of my EBV in 6 months. It works for some people and not for others, but it's worth a shot. I have had so many relapses of EBV. I am 23 now and I first got it when I was about 16. It's been a long hard life since then. I'm also hypothyroid.

One question, do you happen to get throat infections that resemble strep throat with white spots or patches on your tonsils when you have a relapse?
